  • Just bought Cottages at Shipyard

I just bought a timeshare at Cottages at Shipyard on Hilton Head Island. I know Spinnaker owners have use of all of the Spinnaker facilities on the island. At Spinnaker presentations they'll tell you that owners get to use the three courses on Shipyard for the cost of a cart fee. Does anybody know if that is true for those who bought resale? We're very happy with our purchase (week 27 annual use) and plan to use it regularly. Neither one of us is an avid golfer, having returned to the game after a long layoff. It would just be nice to have cheap golf as part of the package.

Are there any other benefits as a spinnaker owner I should know about but probably don't?

    TIA,
    Jim

Wish I were smart enough to answer your questions, but congratulations on your purchase, that's the height of the season!
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

DW and I have been shopping for a timeshare for about a year now. Since we live 3 hours from HHI, we thought that would be a great place to go.
          • Pretty good beaches
          • Golf!
          • Fairly relaxed area, especially compared to Myrtle Beach. Although July can be crowded.
          • Decent kayaking & sailing.
          • We like Hilton Head Island.
          • Great trading power

The week before we bought we went to a timeshare demonstration at Waterside, also owned by Spinnaker. The salesman showed us Spinnaker's other properties. I thought then I would like to own one of the Cottages but they were all sold. They're townhouses in a gated/guarded community away from traffic. Some people like being in crowds but not me. A week later I bought one on ebay.

I think you couldn't go wrong buying on HH. They have about 2000 timeshares and have just about run out of room to build any more. Spinnaker is building one on the water now. The units are selling for $35k - $50k (so I've heard). Some developer will find room for more but HH has limited the height of building to the height of the tallest trees (or thereabouts). No highrises.

Maintenance fees tend to be on the high side on Hilton Head. Often $650 - $900. The one you missed was less than $600 and mine was $498. I expect that to go up next year. If you decide to buy HH, just keep your eyes open. There tend to be 15-20 HH timeshares listed on eBay at any time.

I'll keep you posted on our experience. Spinnaker owners are allowed to use the facilities all year long (at least according to our salesman) and we go to HH pretty regularly. But it will be July 2008 before we use our TS.

Our friends own at Spinnaker at Shipyard Plantation and they can used the three (3) golf links at Shipyard for only the cost of the cart. They purchased this t/s about ten years ago. I think they purchased a golf pkg.

Spinnaker and the Cottages at Shipyard are great t/s resorts located in a guarded gated community.
