Many of the vacation rentals offered make it possible for travelers to benefit from more space, privacy, and comforts-of-home-conveniences. The only truly saving grace is that when I went in the website that the only offered one resort in DR and the other in Bahamas for February.

They tell you they can rent it

Well just more motivation for putting our weeks into the RCI exchange and watch them get rented out instead of put into the exchange pool....NOT.

This is no surprise. I can't wait for the RCI apologists to cover this one.

Why would anyone deposit a week with RCI now? If there were any question that they were renting weeks (there hasn't been for a number of years) this site drops all pretense. It is clear from the rules and regs, has been for years, that they have the right to rent the time - so why the surprise?

In a recent conversation with a reasonably high RCI representative I mentioned how absolutely disgusted members were with the rental policies. The answer was "It's in our name. We are a rental company". I'm not quite sure where rental is in the RCI name but obviously they intend to continue. I dropped RCI weeks back in 2001 and only deal with them now for Points. Since I get the known, and acceptable, value from points I don't really care what they do with my deposit. But I would never give them a week and expect an equal week - forget better week - in exchange. The weeks system with it's secret values is as corrupt and underhanded as you'll ever find. No one should feed it anymore. If you choose to you already know they rent at least some of the deposits so why complain. Don't deposit or be a paying member if you don't like what it is they tell you they are going to do.

Take your business elsewhere.

Did I say I was surprised?.....I thought I said "This is no surprise."

As far as using RCI....I am still delighted with the trades I make in weeks as I know how to use the system, my membership is paid until 2013 due to SA and other purchases, and my main resorts use RCI for internal trades at a discount....so I will continue to use the system...I don't really have a choice. And I have moved some of my business over to the independents and II.

RCI points.....no thanks.....talk about a system ripe for manipulation by the developer and RCI. But that is another story.

As far as my RCI deposits go I only give them a good week when I need the trading power otherwise not a chance.

I can complain all I want....complaining does 'sometimes' lead to beneficial changes. It has in the past and may in the future. If you have no dog in this fight then why are you complaining that I am complaining?

Clearly, correctly and well stated.........

Personally, I can't even manage to muster up any sincere surprise that a "high level" RCI dolt doesn't even comprehend that the word "rental" is NOT actually contained in the name Resort Condominiums International. Sometimes I really have to wonder if the RCI goal isn't actually to make its paying membership unnecessary and/or irrelevant to its bottom line.

All I can say, is take advantage of the rentals. They are out there and they are cheaper than many resorts charge for their maintenance fees. Why still buy at some of these resorts?

Now that I own on St Thomas, Aruba and every other year on Grand Cayman, I really think it is time to give them the boot.....I have one 2008 week on deposit....but TPI or DAE would take that week as well as II...it just doesn't seem worth it anymore to do business with a company like them
