I received a letter from Celebrity stating that I needed to sign a Limited Power of Attorney so Jared Meyer's can go into a reserve funding to avoid substantial increase in maintenance fees ($200.00). This makes me a bit nervious. This is my only timeshare, and I'm not sure how others operate. Is this a normal activity?

I don't believe I'd ever give a developer limited power of attorny and allow them to raid the reserves of my timeshare for it's cash. If upgrades need to be made they can be done through SA's or correct management of the present reserve fund for the timeshare. The reserve fund is set up to support the timeshare and should pay out for the timeshares needs. The developer or management company should not need limited power of attorny in order to withdraw cash from the resrve to maintain the timeshare. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

I agree that Celebrity resorts are devious and would never give them any form of power of attorney.

Thank you everyone. It does say that the Board cannot waive or reduce this fee ($200) without permission from the majority of the resort's owner base.
I know that they recently had large SA that were sent in the past couple years, so I thought this was odd.
Another thing, I think it is strange that they now list on their website amenities available from Star Island which is owned by Fairfield (Wyndam). I asked their customer service and was told it was an error on their website, but it was never changed. The paranoid person in me wonders if they want to rape the reserve and dump the property.Vanessa

There is an internet group for Celebrity owners run by a guy named(or nicknamed) Winky. I suggest you do a search and join up- you are not alone having problems with Celebrity resorts.

Hi folks,
I too am an owner with Celebrity. I sense a lot of frustration building up.
I also very recently joined the Yahoo list and will be participating there.
(One thing that is a problem a little with Yahoo lists though is for the most part their content will not be listed on Google etc.)
For that reason I also created a web forum that is strictly about Celebrity Resorts only. I hope you will consider joining together and posting all of your thoughts about what is happening with that timeshare / developer..as well as our money!
There is strength in numbers..so I hope any Celebrity owners will come and work together with us on the Yahoo list..as well as these forums:

For any of you folks that are curious as to the letter they sent out..here it is: (Hope you can read them 2 .pdf files:

Celebrity Resorts - Wyndam?
Something is definately going on. I had asked customer service earlier in the year why Star Island's amenities were on the web site. They said it was an errror. I did a search on Google and Celebrity Resorts came up at the Wyndam site. This could be wishful thinking of course.
