  • When are your MFs due?

This is the time of year when I start cringing about opening the mail.

Got one this week due next month.
One is quarterly was due last week.
    and
the last one should be in the mailbox in the next couple of weeks.

We are good about budgeting for them and I guess it's better than all of them being due Jan 1.

When do your MFs bills come in and when are they due?

With my FF/Wyn I have it set up for an annual payment that is billed in August for early Sept payment. Any adjustments are billed at end of year.

    With my WM, quarterly dues.

The Royals bill about 90 days prior to the interval and payment is due 60 days prior to that particular interval. I have no clue about South Africa, but I know their mail can be months in coming.

All of mine are due in January. Just after the holidays.

I have 4 that are usually due in January, and 2 due in September. I never pay them at that time, but always pay them ahead at different times of the year, depending whether I want to bank them or not.

All 7 of ours are due in December/January but the Suites and Villa's at Polo Towers send out a bill in June or July for those that prefer to pay earlier rather than have the bill come due around the holidays. We've always just planned for it by withholding a little money each payday into a savings account. With MF's around $5,500 I really have to save throughout the year. Otherwise that would be a very unpleasant bill come the holiday season or a rough way to start out each year.

One is new, but I think it's due in January.

The other is for a floating week in 2009, and you have to pay the 2009 maintenance before you can reserve your 2009 week. But they're always a bit hazy about when they will open up the next year's reservations. Technically it's one year out, but every year they open reservations in the spring for the next summer if you've already paid your MFs. So it's a pain. I have to remember to start calling them and hinting around in March....

I have 1 due Nov., 2 Jan., and 2 Feb. I usually make reservations or deposit with II early and pay the fees early when I do this. This way I spread them out and don't worry about getting hit at the same time.

My goodness ! $5,500.00 a year for maintenance fees alone ? How do you afford to take the vacation after all the costs? With all the extra costs and fees,( SA's,exchange clubs, cost to exchange,parking,etc......)
I wouldn't be able to pay to get there and have any money left to enjoy myself.Timeshares are said to be cheap. I guess you have to be rich.

Bing I knew you wouldn't be able to resist this one.

This was for 7 resorts. Cost average less than $800/week. I believe Doug uses a lot of his resorts.

Even if he doesn't timeshare is still a cost effective way to travel in style. I just returned from a beautiful 2 bedroom stay in England for a total including MF, exchange rate, purchase cost average and membership fee of $750. We stayed in a nice hotel room one night it cost $155. Do the math.

                      Cheap resales definately help!

Timeshares are like horses and boats. It isn't what you pay upfront it is the on-going costs for upkeep.

                      To each his own.

Now back to the original thread topic.....

I probably earn a few dollars more than you. I suppose it would be hard to imagine owning and keeping up with a timeshare if you couldn't afford the purchase price let alone the yearly MF's.

I honestly don't find it to be that much of a burden and, we do manage to afford to fly to almost all of our vacations and we manage to afford our entertainment once we get there. For instance, we'll be in Vegas next month. I have two seats reserve for Cirque's Love show at the Mirage and have reservations for two at Samba, which I actually consider to be a cheap date for our anniversary. Oh yea, and we're flying into Vegas. None of that 22 hour drive for us. This of course doesn't include any gambling we'll do (minimal by most standards), shopping and any other meals we eat out which is most of them.

I think I understand now why you don't care for timeshares. You simply can't afford them.

Most of ours are due January 1st.

Bing....it is called budgeting and living below ones means. If one cannot afford a timeshare then by all means don't buy one....or a new car....or a sub-prime mortgaged overpriced house....or......

Mine are only about $3,800 but I have that more than covered by renting out my 3 Aruba weeks for $4,300. My 2 Playa Linda weeks are due in October but I have already paid them so I could get my renters their written confirmations. The rest are due December/January.
