  • Do you cook?

Just wondering, if your timeshare has a good kitchen, do you cook or eat out? If you cook, do you bring anything or buy everything you need when you get to the local grocery store?

I have a 'Bluegreen bag' that goes into the suit case. It contains small size containers of my spices, everything from pepper, salt, steak seasoning, chicken seasoning to some other cooking seasoning blends that I use. My bag also has microwave popcorn, small container of olive oil, my tea (resort has coffee for my wife, but I get left out, so I bring my own) and other things that I don't want to buy store size packages of and then leave most of it at the resort, or throw away.

What do you bring or what do you do for food when you travel?

We don't cook much in Orlando. The last time we cooked in Orlando was a roast for the Superbowl game that Sunday. We were staying at Cypress Pointe and had a great television for watching the game.

I did take foil and some spices too. We wrapped the roast we bought at the grocery store in the foil, sprinkled it with spices, added a can of cream of mushroom soup, bought some potatoes, butter and gravy mix. It was great. We had roast beef sandwiches to take to the parks for the following day and used Disney's mayo, lettuce and tomatoes to flavor them. Yummy!

We always grill steaks when we go to Hawaii, at least twice during our two weeks. Steaks on the island are just better, a higher grade of beef.

Yes, I like to cook on vacation. Sometimes we bring a whole cooler full of food, including meat and vegetables and fruit. And coffee, of course!

It depends upon where we are

On Kauai we love to barbeque and eat those fresh fruits from the farmers markets. We will go to Costco to get the required stuff, steaks, etc for the 2 or 3 weeks.
In Nuevo Vallarta, we make sandwiches, enjoy some of Alex's great tamales, so all we bring is coffee, sweetener, etc.

Disney with a grandkid and grown kids, maybe we will fix a snack, or something for breakfast before going out for the day. Eating out is too easy around Orlando.

I' m a Chef by trade and love to cook on vacation. I like to go food shopping and find local ingredients to have fun with. I always bring a good French knife at the very least as I try to keep packing light. I like the control over the food we eat , nutrition and cost. We choose a nice restaurant for a special treat. I mostly do breakfast stuff like pancakes or just buy cakes or dougnuts. Coffee is a must. We have cooked a few times when we travel with a large group of friends. BTW hot Chocolate chip cookies while traveling is nice. Does that count?

We cook some and dine out some. After all, we're on vacation and I don't want cooking meals to interfer with the things we want to do. If we're out and about, we eat out.

Usually we'll eat in 2-4 times during our vacation week depending on where we're at. If we're in Vegas, we probably won't cook at all. If we're in Palm Beach I'll cook a few meals. If the resort has gas grills that are kept clean I'll cook steaks out one or two nights during our stay.

If resorts had slow cookers in the kitchen I suspect I'd cook even more than I do. Nothing like being able to put dinner together in the morning and then have it hot and ready in the evening.

A lot depends on where we are going. Breakfast and sandwich or salad lunches are usual for eat in or picnic style. Which we normally buy at supermarkets there.

Our first dinner is almost always a rotisserie chicken from wherever and a salad, After a day of travel I am not in the mood to go out.

Most times we go out for dinner. There are exceptions to this rule. VERY pricey vacation spots I will cook dinner two or three times. Something simple like steak and salad et al. For GCM we pack a cooler of frozen meats but that is the only place so far that we have done that!

I also have a small timeshare travel kit. Splenda, coffee and filters, salt and pepper, a few spices, a couple of marinades and Ziploc bags. Most driving destinations the stores will be the same or less than NY so we shop there.

I cook some of the time. If we're driving, we'll bring some of the ingredients, and if not we'll purchase what we need. We always have breakfast in, and maybe 3 or 4 lunches and 3 or 4 dinners. Saves us money for more vacations! It's especially nice if there's a barbecue handy.

Breakfast yes, but as often as not, frozen waffles and pre-cooked bacon, maybe scrambled eggs.

Lunch and dinner are typically eaten out, or assembled rather than "cooked".

I cook a lot when I'm on vacation, because I hardly ever cook at home - just too busy and my husband does too good a job!! We usually travel with friends and will share a certain number of nights each, then eat out a few times.

I'd usually rather cook something - always pretty easy - than get showered and dressed, etc., after a day on the beach or around the pool.
