RCI Points Resort

Hope this is the right place to post this and I already posted this on TUG but need help ASAP so i'm posting here as well.

I am cosidering purchasing a timeshare week that has already been converted to points. Even though I currently own 7 weeks which are all weeks resorts I know very little about points other than it's really nothing more than currency to be used to exchange for RCI timeshare or affiliated products and vacations. I am not interested in this week as points but very interested in the week itself.

So here are my questions if this was converted to points am I locked into points for a set period of time or can I just get the deed in my name and go back to the original weeks system?

In responding I really am only interested in how and if I can go back to the underlying property ownership of that specific week and unit number. This is a fixed week fixed unit not floating week and that's what I want. I already called RCI and the points VC said he only new how to make points exchnages and was no help. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he put me on hold and then I got disconnected.

Thanks in advance and I need to know what to do before I continue with this purchase. I already asked the current owner these questions and he is clueless just paid his $3,000 to convert and is now selling cause he didn't understand trading with RCI weeks or points.

Someone else may chime in with more info, but I'll share from my experience.


You can reserve your exact week in the exact unit at 12 months out by calling the resort directly. Once time has ellapsed to 10 months before check in, the week will automtically become points. You can maintain points status by continuing your membership with RCI. You can pull out of points at any time- though I don't know why you would since the resale value is worth more as a points week. I believe if you do not maintain RCI points membership for three years it will revert back to a weeks week.

Just don't apply to RCI for a points account

Then you will own just the week.

Now you need to make sure that 2008 hasn't been used as points, as this can and does happen.

With a points account you can borrow forward a year.

Other than that, your fine just buying the fixed week.

Thanks Greg the 2008 week has already been converted to points and I'm trying to find out how many years I will be locked into points since I am very familiar with the resort and contrary to the norm the underlying value of the fixed week is far greater than the associated points for this resort.

My intention is to buy it and resell it for a profit just don't want to be locked in for the three years.

Don't know why the idiot at RCI points couldn't provide me with this information
