HELP! Question about security deposit ?

My wife and i are about to make our very first timeshare purchase and wanted to find out some info before we go ahead with it. The resale co. is asking us for a security deposit of $300 dollars to hold the unit for us and said our credit card would be reinbursed if we backed out. Is that normal practice? It's a fairly insignificant amount of money in my opinion, but tell us who the resale company is, name/address/phone#, and someone hear may be able to help you.
