  • Best timeshare in St. Martin?

    Hi all,

I wanted to know if anybody knows of the best timeshare to stay at in St. Martin. Also what time of year is the weather perfect? Thanks

    Hi and welcome !
It depends on what you like, that is, what sort of resort and ammenities you prefer. There are some nice, larger resorts with some bells & whistles and then some quiet, laid back, simpler ones like where I own La Vista Resort | Sint-Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
Please tell us a little more about what makes a good vacation for you.
Beware that there is one T/S right near the flight line at the SXM airport.

Do you want to be in the heart of things or off the beaten track?

Excellent question !!! Yes, this is a vital point. If you like laid back or more polished type resorts, this is essential.

What's the difference between the Dutch and French sides, other than language?

Two differences between the sides immediately come to mind
            1. French side has few or no TS. Everything up there is hotel.
            2. Attitude on the French side is much different. On the Dutch side, we found that almost everyone spoke English. On the French side, moost residents spoke primarily French. They really seemed to consider themselves part of France, just a little farther west. I know, they are a part of France, but they made little effort to accommodate tourists that spoke no French.

              One has nude beaches.
              Guess which.

Oh, I don't know about that. I found that when it looked as if my hand would be reaching for my wallet the people on the French side were quite accommodating.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                “You shouldn't wear that body.”

I like the restaurants in Grand Case and Marigot better but you do reach for your wallet there!

There are at least one or two timeshares in french St Marteen but the majority are in dutch St Maarten.

The french side deals strictly in euros while the dutch side accepts dollars.

OH and casinos! They are on the dutch side.

We used dollars exclusively while we were on the French side. And we saw many stores with prices posted in both € and $.

                      Steve,
I was really taken by surprise about the euros on our last visit. We have been three times and the other two times dollars were not an issue.

With the exchange rate being what it is now the meals we had probably have gone from expensive to VERY expensive.

Personally it is no longer an island I like to visit. Very overbuilt. Especially when our first trip was some 15 years ago judged against now JMHO.

                      French Resorts:

                      Cottages de Lonvilliers ( #3143 )
                      Anse Marcel

                      Nettle Bay Beach Club ( #4824 )
                      BP 4081

You could argue that Oyster Bay Resort is on the french side too as it is just on the other side of the bay.

They both have nude beaches. Heck, we saw topless at the little rib shack right bay the runway end.
