RCI Is overcharging points, giving smaller rooms with less ammenities that cost up to 40 or 50% more that the property the property owners own. I just got back from the grand canyon and ripped off royally. They have 7 or 8 law firms filing class action law suits against them for just such actions, just do a google for RCI and class action law suits and read up

RCI lawsuit link and brief explaination of my experience
Read about law suit here (http://www.classcounsel.com/news/rci.html) and contact them if you have been treated illegally. They are renting out condos to cash customers and leaving no space available for members to share, inflating the points needed to share a condo in another city, thus increasing profits. They were bought by Windham resorts last year, it is a sales tool at Windham, they tell you all about how RCI is inflating it's points system and limiting its availability and then offering you a way out of RCI. Windham claims to have no control over the policy at RCI but now RCI is a company under the windham corporate umbrella. The only problem is you can't just change to the different points system offered by Windham because you have to own a timeshare with Windham to change - there's where the sales pitch comes in they will offer you one of their properties at a discount (instead of $15,000 only $12,500)

About memontdabe
There is nothing to find out about me I am (or was) an RCI member, we just got a bad deal and maybe the lawsuit is old news to you but I had only been a member for 1 year and did that only to be able to see other places besides orlando at the summer bay resort. If you work for RCI I am very sorry tht the truth hurts but this is all the truth, not slander when it's true.
We had rats in room (2), smaller than booked by RCI, no jacuzzi as expected, key card didn't work at 11 pm in 33 degree temp, took over 40 minutes to get maintenance there to let us in, charged about 12000 more points than what we pay for a 2 bedroom w dining area and jacuzzi, no electric for over 12 hours - they say electric company - cant really confirm or deny that one, tv reception didn't exactly live up to what you would expect in a 5 star? resort, they did clear that up after about 6 hours when they removed the 20 year old VCR, I knew what the problem was but I didn't go there to fix stuff, I have to do that at home - all this within 36 hours of being there, thank goodness the Grand canyon and other sites FINALLY made it work, but I was happy to leave that place it was dreadful

The problem is the resort not RCI. Blame the right party

While I have no great desire to stand up for RCI as they certainly do more than their share of things wrong but they don't control the resorts they get in to trade. In fact they take almost anything as does II. So it pays to do your homework before accepting any resort from any exchange company. This isn't an RCI problem, they were only the conduit. The class(less) action wouldn't have helped as, according to that, you never would have got the trade as RCI would have rented it out. Your complaint is with the resort and whomever runs it.

Sounds like there's a mixture of complaints about RCI and the resort in general.
First, you just learned the hard way (as many of us have) that RCI or I.I.'s ranking of a resort does not reflect it's quality. IMO it's politics and money that help determine a resorts rating. An example is when Westgate and RCI had a difference of opinion and Westgate left RCI for I.I. Westgates resorts ratings went from gold crown to silver crown. A good example is one of the resorts in Branson, MO were Westgate manages part of the resort and the other portion is a different management company. Exact same resort but two different rating through RCI.
If RCI is giving charging you for a one room and you're receiving another, it might be RCI but it could also be the resort itself. You really should have called RCI to complain you did not receive what you paid for with your points.
There have also been complaints of "over booking" at some FL resorts. I still don't think it's been made clear whether or not it's one particular resort group's problem or if RCI has a problem with it's own inventory control. I believe there have been issues with the Royal's in Mexico as well.
Personally, RCI has ticked me off by making multiple public announcements about renting timeshare units to the general public. We've always known that it happens but RCI seems to be making it the foundation of their business rather than exchaning. IMO, there main concern should be owners/exchanger's first and rental's last. Instead, it appears to be rentals first and owners/ exchangers last. This perception is why I'm not renewing my weeks account with RCI. I own at HGVC and will continue to have their coporate account with RCI through them. I don't have a choice in that matter but, I can control it to some small degree by either using my owned week or by keeping my exchanges internally through Hilton.
I'll do what I can to keep my owned inventory out of RCI's hands. By witholding inventory from RCI it will deny them the inventory they need to rent out to the public and deny them that avenue for making profits. Only then will they go back to concentrating on the important people in their business model...............the OWNERS.
I understand the class action law suit and hope it forces them back to their basic business model of an exchange company rather than a rental company. On the other hand I can also agree that it's not the best or most effective way to force change. The best way, IMO, is to deny RCI the inventory they currently abuse. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

How many time are you supposed to complain to both parties involved - I DID
I complained for 2 days, found out that Windham, the resort we stayed in owns RCI - they are complicit, no doubt, they don't claim to be but who would. I could have complained every day all day and it would have achieved nothing, they were all ready to give us the 2 bedroom (which didn't matter) but the jacuzzi did, I don't have a place except outside to put one in my house so I look forward to that. I have 3 cracked vertebrae and 2 titanium plates in my neck. A 1 bedroom with a good hot tub would have shut ME up - and every thing could be worked out until I told them I had no intention of buying a property from them, then all of those condo's dried up.
To change from RCI point system to Wynham points system is only possible if you buy their $13,000 week even though they are under the same corporate umbrella. I guess I need to learn how to mislead people as well as they do and maybe I would have gotten what I asked for - they lied and cheated - ALL OF THEM - RCI people and Windham.
I've been in the printing business for 22 years on my own and have lots of small, medium and several very large customers (county, Fortune 500, utilities) and not a single Better business complaint, lawsuit - nothing in 22 years. For someone to even have a class action law suit filed "SAYS SOMETHING" - somebody ain't doin somethin right - and just like the sales person at Windham said they have teams of lawyers, so I'm sure they know how to skate just barely on the right side of the law, legally but certainly not morally.
What did they do - they set up a sales pitch 10 to 12 months ago, I know now and they can have their little club THEY lost a sure thing, their thinking is he's here and unsatisfied it won't take but a little persuasion to get him to buy - they were wrong.
If I can sell the timeshare in Orlando and break even I will - if not - I'll keep it - it's tax deductable and I can heir it to my son and daughter.
I never had time enough to go anywhere but Orlando, but decided when I turned 50 to make time to see some of the rest of the world.
You can travel as economically as with a timeshare if you look hard enough. Especially when you factor in the fees and monthly payments, however you expect that to cover the cost of exchange. You don't find out until you use the service that they charge you just for them to take a breath.
You usually get screwed the first time out on just about anything when there are a bunch of slime commission salemen involved. Honest people think like honest people. When I find out someone is less than truthfull, I either treat them with a great awareness of their deceipt or get away from them because they can't be trusted. In this case I choose to do both, I intend to post as much about this experience as possible, in as many places as possible.
I am filing complaints with all regulatory commisions in FL and AZ. So any one that DOES DO THEIR HOMEWORK will have a little insight into the how unscrupulous the industry is. I don't need a weeks worth of land in every state in the world, I signed up to trade the two I DID have, I am guilty of not knowing they were thieves NOT being the theif and I don't care who likes my posts or me or who dislikes the posts or me.

Now that you have posted your rant, you don't need to continue to re-post it here. You are not the first person who felt that you were cheated. From your post it appears that you lack a great deal of knowledge on how to buy and use timeshares. I would hope that you would read and learn from this site how to do so. Maybe your anger and frustration would subside somewhat if you did.
Good luck fighting windmills.

Nearly dead....or procedural decisions pending?
Timeos2 has stated: >> The nearly dead RCI class(less) action is years old.....<<
==========================================
Feel free to correct me with current facts if I am mistaken, but my own understanding of the status of the lawsuit against RCI (Murillo vs. RCI) is that briefs were submitted by both sides in regard to the "class certification" aspect of the case. It is my further limited understanding that a decision from the court on that particular aspect is due virtually any day now and, if class certification is granted, that the case then moves forward (unless settled out of court first).
In short, although I'll stand to be corrected, it seems to me based on what limited knowledge I possess, that quite to the contrary of being "nearly dead", the case may very well actually (finally) be just coming to life.......

There is an old saying the ''the wheels of justice grind slowly''. A case being a year old is a recent case, not an old one, in the judicial system.
Another website is RCI Class Action .com
You might want to pay particular attention to the last of the FAQ's, ''How long will the case take?'' and its answer.

I'm not sure I understand. You own with Summer Bay and you traded into a Wyndham timeshare? Which one? Rats??? Yikes!
What does it mean when you said they set up a sales pitch 10 to 12 months ago - was this a promo stay or a timeshare exchange or a rental?
Did you use RCI points to trade but you didn't get the unit size you had booked? So you complained and they offered a 2BR w/jacuzzi but you turned it down??? I'm very confused.
I know that you're upset and probably have pain with the health problems you cited but exactly what happened to you regarding the timeshare?
