  • Paying Taxes and M/F on sold timeshare.

I sold one of my timeshares a couple of months ago. The closing was done through Timeshare Transfer INC and was completed several weeks ago when I received my money. However, I just received the Maintenance Fee and Property Tax bills due next month for 2008. These should be the responsibility of the buyers as the sale has been completed. I do not know if the deed has been recorded yet but it should have been.

What do I do with these bills? Do I just send them to the buyer or what?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

When I purchased my San Luis Bay units the tax bill continued to go to the previous owner. I had to fill out some dumb form from their office to get the record changed so they would send it to me instead. On a second unit I purchased the previous owner sent me the tax bill & I paid it but the next year nothing showed up. I went on-line & looked it up & paid it that way so it wouldn't be late. After that all was well. It just takes the assessors office a full year to get the records straight, I think.

I would send the new owner the bills. You can call the office on both bills to make sure they have the correct owner info on record. The communication between the county offices there seems to take forever and a day!

I agree with Julie - notify the resort and forward the bill to the new owners. Many times it does seem to take many months for things to 'catch up'

Contact Timeshare Transfer about the tax bill- it may be your responsibility if it was for the previous year and they should have taken it into effect in the closing. Definitely send the bills to the new owners.
