Thanks tonyg, others here won't beat up on you !
bing,
not4scams
post to Tony who those "Others" are and please name them. If you do not name those "Others" then you are doing another of your "Chicken Little" like postings.
Unlike you I will let people know who I am disagreeing with and the definate reasons why.
This is unlike your whinning quote " Thanks tonyg, others here won't beat up on you !" unquote. This is not name calling but calling someone out and asking you to be accountable for their NEGITIVE whinny postings and asking them to name names of thos "Others".
You do not offer any positive suggestions on how to benifit from timesharing. If you have posted postive "How to" in your last 10 posts, prove it and post it here. I doubt that you can.
Your posts about Drkenrich contained nothing usefull for this group and priased him at the exspense of the group. If other read all of your posts and Drkenrich posts then they will see what you mistakingly positive posts. You in your posts thaned him. I raised that mistake of yours in other posts but you then that you are being picked on without adressing the points I raised quoting him.
Then you have the cheek to post things like "He has singled me out to pick on and makes up things about me. Very childish for an adult." unquote.
You seldom address the points raised and your that you are a por victim is dedundant.
Please post something that is positive for a change that can truely help others better use their timeshares.
Merry timesharing to the ones that have learned to enjoy them. To the others, make the effort to at least learn and you may be pleasantly suprized how much fun and enjoyment you might have with timesharing.

Going back to the original question...
txpx
As you can see, what may appear a simple question is anything but on this forum and subject to heated debate on collateral issues.
As to your question,in my experience, the timeshares are posted in ebay cheaply for several reasons. Many people are tired of paying their maintenance fees, don't use the TS and have not been able to sell it. They are willing to give it away in order to avoid the fees. Some people have found they was tricked into buying a TS and simply want out after discovering that the promises made to them by sellers (such as trading power) are false and lastly many of the people are companies are what have become known as postcard companies. These companies convince people to pay the company thousands of dollars to take their TS in order not to pay fees. The companies unload them on ebay, having already made their money.
As to the purchase on ebay, none of these are a scam(the collateral issue of postcard companies is not for discussion here). However, you must do your due diligence if you wish to buy. If the TS is a $1, the value of the TS is probably a $1. There is likely to be little or no trading value. Thus the representation that it trades easily is incorrect. However, only investigation will give you this answer. Trading power generally means how many people would like to use the TS at that time. A Cape Cod TS in July generally trades great, in February trades awful.
Unless you wish to get into the business of selling, I recommend people but TS on ebay that they wish to use not trade. If you live five miles fron cape cod and every year the family goes there in February, then that may be a great purchase for you.
I have bought three TS on ebay. I use all three (one I occasionally trade but that was not the reason I bought it). I have been thrilled with my purchases but hesitate to say I would be if I had purchased to trade or rent.
The key to TS is "due diligence". Don't go out and buy on the representations of the sellers. If you do that.it can be a great way to travel

I own 6 TS weeks...I bought 3 of them on ebay. Due diligence is a must. I've called the timeshare resort, verified if there are any upcoming SA's or anything past due. I also verify the location and capacity of the unit in question, along with maintenance fees. I also read reviews, which you take with a grain of salt. They are very subjective, but if every says the place is terrible; I definitely consider it..........I feel as though I have received some very good deals for my needs. I vacation and stay at each resort; usually I cycle EOY. My trades have been very good. I paid less than $1k for all three. Two of them are not gold crown, but the location is great and I have both summer and winter weeks.

Lets say that that $1,000. Buy it now generally sells for $5,000 or more on the resale market and sold for $10,000 through the developer.
If you had done you due diligence on this resort were you may want to go you would then be in a postion to to grab a great bargin.
If you did not want to keep this or use this type of bargin for exchanges if you keep it for just a little bit more than a year and resell it you can get a great return on your investment of about 300%. to 400%.
That being said we bought most of our 30 ownerships to use or rent and not to flip.
But if the oppertunity resents its self I will grab the type of timeshare that has HIGH DEMAND if I can steal it as a Buy It Now Price.
One mistake I see made on ebay some bidders are penny wise and dollar foolish and lose out on some great deals.

No disagreement here with your statement. I was staying with the $1 or $10 unit that was being asked about.

In the past month we rented out our week 7 studieo in West Plam Beach Florida that we won for a $1 bid and about $395 in closing-transfer costs.
