  • We no longer own a timeshare, trying to decide what to do next...

Well, a long story cut short we sold both of our timeshares here in the past month. We had a late August 2BR week at Shawnee and we wanted to sell that one as with 3-kids the unit was just smaller then we could deal with and after owning there for almost 5-years we were ready to move on.

We also sold our Killington Vermont week and in this case the buyers made us an offer we could not refuse. We were not actually looking to sell the unit but they new owners wanted a 5-bedroom Ski Chalet that could sleep 10 or more and they wanted our week so the long and short of it is that we sold that one too!

We are working on the transfers for both weeks and now we are debating if it is wise to start shopping for replacements or if we should take a year or two of renting weeks that we would not normally want to own. Some examples, we could do a Disney vacation (I would not want to own there so renting makes lots of sense) or perhaps if I can lose a lot of weight I have gained this past year I might consider a ski trip out west.

I do not get much vacation time at work (I get 10-days) so the little time I get off is precious but it is refreshing to know that this next year we have a lot of flexibility. We are watching for a couple "key" weeks/locations and we have the money from the sale of these two weeks sitting in a money market so we can jump at the right deal but we like to buy weeks and locations that we use as opposed to playing the exchange game. So, renting looks real attractive for this coming year...

Our kids are 11, 7 and 3 (almost 4) so Disney needs to be a trip we do soon.

Oh well, I have not been posting much so I figured I would admit that soon I will no longer be a timeshare owner although we will fix that again with the right deal!

Afte reading your post,it seems that renting would be the best choice for right now.

Not in a hurry. But you may want to look around the point system to see if it will make sense to you.

Free at last ... no rush to grab just anything- look for the right fit for your particular needs. Orlando is an easy trade/rental where no one needs to own.

It is like starting over again so yes we have lots of options. I am not sure what we want to do but we can consider all of our options. The trick is ensuring we can get a 2BR 1/Loft or larger unit with exchanges or points as anything smaller is not a vacation.

The kids have also expressed interest in a camping trip or an overnight canoe trip and frankly I think I would really like a quiet vacation away from people. This has been a rough year and my goal for next year is to find a balance or quite my job and find another way to make a living. Time for some changes and everything is on the table to find a new life balance

              Ken,

I think if I were you, I'd first decide where/what I want to own. Then, I'd look for the best deal possible. January is usually a good month to buy, and this year, it may even be better most.

You can wait even longer, and see what happens with the market, since you are in no hurry. Renting this year sounds like the way to go. Good Luck!!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I suggest just work out your holidays for the next year or two. Do the Disney thing. If Frank can get you a week near Disney, it'd be perfect.

Enjoy a camping trip or two with the kids. We take our five camping, only for a few days at a time and they love it. DH just went with our boys for a father/sons camp last weekend. These are the moments that create cherished lifelong memories.

Take your time buying another timeshare.

Thanks and we are going to make sure we get the right timeshare for us again. We bought both the units we have back when we had 2-kids and things worked fine then... They were not in school yet and everybody had space.

Times changed and now we need to make some changes to our vacations to adjust for life. I also need to get snipped before any new additions
