I know I read somewhere that there is a timeshare in Stowe that is close enough to downtown Stowe that you can walk there. Which one is it? This is driving me nuts. Is it Mountainside at Stowe?

I was in Stowe in 10/06 and I can't remember one within walking distance.....but maybe right off the road you take to go from the village of Stowe up to Smugglers Notch????
There are TSs right AT the mountain before you go over the notch (we took the gondola up the mountain there) which I believe is Mountainside at Stowe but close to town????
Trapp Family is not far but definitely not walking distance.....sorry!

I went back and looked at RCI places in Stowe. I think I MUST be thinking of Mountainside at Stowe. Maybe I got the (mistaken) impression things are walkable from this review....

We used to live in Stowe, so it was nice to be within walking distance to one of our old haunts, The Sunset Grille. If you bring/rent bikes, you can ride them to a number of other places, and the rec path which is only about 1/4 mile from the resort. Otherwise, you'll need to drive to the village (Main Street) and to the mountain. Best restaurants in immediate vicinity: PieCasso Pizza, The Cactus Cafe and The Shed Restaurant & Brewery!!

Darn. I must have gotten so excited at the idea of walking to the first restaurant that I ignored the rest of the paragraph about how you have to drive to the village. Fooey. Sorry to confuse everyone!
Can anyone think of any resorts anywhere in the Northeast that are close enough to a town to walk to things?

Wacky,
Not walking distance but the timeshares (3) I think in Killington, have a bus for $2 into Rutland (about 20 min to 1/2 hr away) and you can walk around Rutland. There is a mini mall with grocery, a few stores and a movie. There are several nice restaurants (not at the mall) in Rutland and it is a pleasant walk in nice weather. Since I uaually go in the winter, I don't do much walking because I hate cold weather.Kay H

Casa Wacky in Fabulous North Jersey )
j/k, I will try to think.
We know Mtside, and Mike thinks it's 1/2 -1 mile to town.
I'm not sure, not ever paying attention despite 13+ trips to Smugglers but you could check further.
Not in the northeast, but we stayed at Treetops in Gatlinburg TN. and it was an easy walk into town, probably about a mile but very pleasant and safe.

It's a road, not a highway as you might think. Remember this is Vermont and not that busy to begin with. One lane in each direction. A lot of traffic all the time, as it';s a busy touristy area but I would walk it I think.
I just did a mapquest and it's 2 miles to Main Street, center of town....
That might be a deal killer-- ? If not i can pull out some smugglers/stowe maps and look further.....lemme know
Also I think you can cut in to the rec path ( a paved 5.5 mile jaunt for bikes, skaters, walkers)-- that would take you off road. If you;re still interested I'll look at the maps I have. I'm not sure where the entrances are relative to Mtside...

Two miles, definitely pushing it. Don't drag out the maps, we wouldn't be going till, oh, 2011 at the rate we're going. Thanks! Any other suggestions for other locations welcome, too.
And there's nothing in Williamsburg that's near anything else, is there? Except King's Creek is next door to Water Country, I think you can walk there.

I'm not a good one to ask for t/s in general as we really haven't been to that many and only to Smugglers in the NE.
Happen to know about Mtside only because a friend bought a fully owned unit there years ago and we paid attention to where it was/drove on grounds because of that..
2011?!! I'm still hoping to make plans for 2008.......

Lake Placid Club Lodges is probably less than a flat half mile to town. We walked all the way round the lake and it is +/- 2 miles total. Of course this is summer not winter.Lawren
