I was just wondering, has anyone has ever purchased timeshare travel insurance? My wife and I just went on a cruise for the first time, we usually just stay at our TS, and they offered us a travel insurance policy to protect us while we were on the cruise. When they offered us this protection, I wondered if there was the same type of policy out there for our TS. I did some research and found Vacation Guard has a policy geared towards TS, but it was limiting. They only reimburse MFs if you cannot reshedule your TS and only reimburse you up to $100 exchange fee to reuse your air (if you can travel within 1 year - most airline's policy). Other than this, it seemed like a standard policy. I noticed with my cruise insurance, if I canceled my cruise, for a "covered" reason of course, I would be reimbursed my cruisefare and my airfare (even if my air was not booked through the cruise line). Does anyone know if there is a similar policy for TS?
    Thanks for your input!

I never bought TS insurance, but I have bought regular travel insurance. I used to buy it for large trips, but now I buy it for smaller TS trips. A few years ago we were stuck for 3 days outside of DC due to a blizzard in the Northeast and lack of communication by the airline...long story..

Since then, when we travel where I think the weather will be an influencing factor in either arrival or departure, I buy it. If someone is sick and I have a vaction scheduled I will buy it. I also suggest to some that if someone has a pre-existing condition, they buy it. For the 140.00 or so that the policy costs, it may potentially save hundreds of dollars.

Friends of ours were supposed to go to Sedona with us last year. Her mother had been sick, I suggested she buy insurance with the waiver for pre-ex. Five days prior to leaving her mother was admitted into the hospital, they had to cancel and received all monies back.

Since I have been buying the insurance I have never used it, but I am sure the one time I don't, I'll need it.
