Having the phone message box full of stuff the resort wants me to do and be told of the great tours at the resort and that I should attend.
Having to do a laundry exchange like in the military at some resorts.

Here's my list of things I'd rather not endure while on vacation:

1. Dull knives and vegetable peelers (I now bring my own)
2. Deception by the sales staff (e.g. calling a sales pitch an owner's update)
3. Having to go to the person who signs people up for a sales pitch in order to get a parking pass
4. Being insulted by the person who signs people up for a sales pitch when you tell them that your vacation time is more valuable than the freebies that they are offering
5. Dirty carpet
6. Appliances that are broken, malfunctioning, or improperly maintained (e.g. leaving a disposable aluminum sheet on rather than under the heating element of an oven)
7. Floor plans in which the person(s) sleeping on the couch must go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom.
8. Mattresses that are saggy
9. Frying pans that everything sticks to, especially when there's no Scotch-Brite pad or equivalent to clean them with. (I now bring my own.)
10. Burn holes in blankets, bedspreads, etc.
11. Smoke odor
12. Insects in the unit

Oh, I forgot the bad mattresses! Uncomfortable beds are the worst, because they can make the whole vacation miserable.

#1 Dull knives
#2 Only 1 frying pan; cheap cooking sets that make cooking impossible. Just try to make breakfast with only 1 cheap frying pan!
#3 No barbeques or ones that don't work
#4 Resorts that tack on fees and/or taxes or surcharges. Utilities & occupancy taxes & parking should be built into the owner MF. I pay them at mine so why should I have to pay again when I exchange?
#5 No barbeque tools. I can make do but at least supply some tongs.
#6 No coffee mugs, just those stupid little teacup type things.
#7 Grounds crews that run blowers all day long everyday. Use a rake, people!
#8 Crappy corkscrew/cork puller thingy. Don't make it hard to get my wine bottle open. It makes me cranky.

Oh, almost forgot my biggest pet peeve...#9 Resorts that allow pool lounge chair hogs to sneak down to the pool at 5am to leave a flip-flop or magazine as their place holder while they have a leisurely breakfast, go on a 5 hour zip-lining adventure, do some shopping and finally go to the pool in time for the happy-hour discount cocktails. Grrrrrr!

Oh, yeah! These 4 are also on our list....I really hate tea party sized coffee cups! They should be used for eyewashes not drinking hot beverages!

We have had such lousy corkscrew pulls that my husband now is always prepared to take a clothes hanger and pull it apart and uses the twisted end to pull the cork....you would be surprised how great that works!

along with:

Thin or pilled sheets, or using flat sheets instead of fitted sheets on mattresses or having flat sheets that are worthless because they don't fit the mattress or finding that housekeeping has shortsheeted the mattress sheet when we get into bed the first night.

This last one, short sheeting, is so darn common, and we have found it done at some of the so-called 5 star resorts like Westin, Hilton and Marriott...nothing worse than being exhausted and climbing into bed, stretching and finding that there is some horsehair mattress pad under your feet.

The likelihood of finding such bad sheets has forced me to always pack sheets to bring with us. I call ahead, ask what type of bed size will I find, and then I bring our sheets with us....if I need them, I have them

I need a lesson in how to do this! I have come this close (insert picture of thumb & index finger almost touching) to smashing the neck of the wine bottle open on the edge of the Oh So In Vogue Granite Counter when the La De Da Creme de la Creme Resort has only a cheapo crappy cork puller but I hate those pesky glass shards in my wine. Now that cork pullers are no longer considered a weapon of choice for terrorists or hijackers, I can take my favorite one from home. That is if I ever can afford to fly anywhere in the future.

The short sheet thing hasn't happened to us....yet. I've noticed more resorts doing the double sheeting around the blanket trick like the upscale hotels do. I'm sure that has a proper term but I don't know what it is, sorry. I like that touch. And with the shift to using Murphy beds instead of sofabeds, it's nice when they are already made up when you pull it out at bedtime.

Oh, oh...definitely this one! My kids will have these pulled out and in a wad within 10 minutes of going to sleep.

I just can't. I can't start taking sheets. That's why we started going to timeshares in the first place--we used to rent houses, and the aggravation of dragging a whole big duffel bag of sheets, blankets, and pillowcases everywhere we went just about drove me over the edge.

Yes, yes! A cookie sheet! And a pizza cutter would be great. Using a dull chefs knife or a cheap steak knife to cut pizza is extremely frustrating. Ripping it apart sometimes is the only solution! Also a decent ice cream scooper, not one that bends if the ice cream is actually frozen and not room temperature.

Someone once recommended using a scissors rather than a pizza cutter. Now we only use a utility shears of scissors to cut pizza. So much faster and efficient!

I can sure relate to SO MANY of these. Some of them are the exact reasons that we prefer to stay at certain brands of timeshares. At least then, we know what to expect, which pet peeves we'll avoid and which we'll need to plan for, by bringing something from home.

Cleanliness, good bedding and linens, and adequate/working TVs, lighting, cookware and appliances are all essential for us. We check them on arrival and call quickly to have problems with any of these addressed ASAP or switch rooms! We're very, very polite and respectful but we don't hesitate at all anymore. It's been rare that the resorts didn't have a new set of something that's in bad shape or missing - we usually just need to ask. Fortunately, we've found the vast majority of resorts to be very accommodating - just one real problem place in 10 years of timesharing!

Noisy grounds maintenance outside of business hours (9-5) and rude staff are not easily remedied. I guess those are most irritating to us.
