I hear you loud and clear! We had the same objection, but then I discovered that if I bought really good sheets (these seem to fold easily and very flat), I could put them easily into a 1 or 2 gallon zip lock bag. The pillow cases easily fold and tuck into a spot inside the luggage, again in a small zip bag....I take care to fold very tightly and flat, and always press air out of the bag while closing....it is amazing how small and flat the bag makes the sheet and it fits nicely in the bottom of the suitcase.

It is just SOP for us now. We can't really enjoy rest in beds with bad linens.

Five people, four beds...and the beds never seem to be the sizes the owners say they are in these houses. And we all like lots of blankets, even in the summer.

I used to actually BUY NEW SHEETS because then at least the sheets would be all packed down and small...but still heavy.

We've run into all of the following:

        1. Lack of adequate heating - or lack of any heating - in cold weather
        2. Lack of a/c or at least fans & screens in hot weather
        3. Moldy mildew-y odor and dampness
        4. Dirty stained carpet - yucky to walk on
        5. Dirty stained upholstery - yucky to sit on
        6. No good coffeepot or espresso maker - can't abide those press coffeepots
        7. No scrubby or dishcloth to wash dishes (I can deal w/lack of soap)
        8. Loud noise til late into the night
        9. Super-saggy mattress

In other words, I need basic creature comfort, cleanliness, sleep, and coffee!

Anything less gets on my nerves, and makes me grumpy.

Well, sure, you are a nice person....you brought sheets for everyone in your party....we, sorry to admit, are not so nice, we only pack for our bed...

Finding ourselves buying buying items for the week? yes, we have done this ... i.e., buying cheap new pillows to replace flat or stinky ones...leaving them behind if we are flying home with note attached as gift for resort and example of "acceptable".

          Brighter bulbs for the lamps.

          Thicker or softer beach towel.

And of course, the ever popular: REAL person-sized coffee mug.

From your list, dirty ANYthing is a real "bummer" on first entering a unit. We cannot stand dirty or dingy carpet or colors that make you feel like you are living in a basement. We also can't stand "distressed" decor....it makes us creeped out...I don't want to find a chunk of wood missing from the end table or nightstand....

I forgot about the beach towels. They were in a second duffel bag.

                * Unclean units
                * Thin blankets (Massanutten is the WORST!)
                * Rubber spatulas (can't grill out without melting them!) - Are you hearing me Marriott?????!!!!
                * Coffee cups in stead of mugs for the human coffee drinker (as opposed to tea cups for mice)

                There you have it!
