  • 18 year olds traveling alone

My friend would like to send her daughter and a friend on a vacation alone for their highschool graduation present. Both are 18 years old. She was thinking of using an RCI exchange, but I told her that RCI has a minimum age requirement of 21. She was thinking then of either a cruise or an all-inclusive resort, but it seems most of them also have a minimum of 21 age requirement.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a resort that wouldn't be too difficult to get to by plane from NY, that would be safe and allow 18 year olds without a chaperone?

    Thanks,

    How about Disney
No really most resorts do have age restrictions for a reason. They don't want a party situation. It happens allot. Here in Sandbridge Beach they will actually check Drivers Licences of people checking in that look close to the age requirement of 23.
The parties get out of hand and properties get destroyed. It's pretty sad how much damage can be done to rental property.

So an 18 year old can serve his/her country, can vote, get married but not old enough to book a vacation!
The problem with real life is that there is no background music.

I am not even sure Disney allows 18 year olds. I think I remember when my son and his group went down that one had to be 21. That was a few years ago so it may have changed. In this day and time, I think Disney is about the only safe place for young people. I just heard the other day about a child getting raped on a cruise ship while vacationing with her grandmother. And look at what happen in Aruba! It is really not a safe world we live in!

My daughter and 3 friends went to Disney at age 18 after graduation. They got transfers to the hotel and used park transportation, so there was no need to rent a car. They used a meal plan, and almost everything was paid for in advance. They wanted to go to Cancun (they let 18 year olds do almost anything there) but I didn't feel it was safe. I was happy to let them do Disney.

Oh this is funny, Guess who might be in the same boat? What might work if one of them looks old enough is if they have a CC in there name. Most will not look further if they have a CC at check-in, Also let them try to check in when the resort is busy so they do not have time to question it.

I called vacationstogo.com and they said that actually most all-inclusive resorts will let an 18 year old check in. I will confirm with the resort before I book it. My friend doesn't feel comfortable sending her daughter to Mexico, but will probably do the bahamas.

Thanks for all of your responses.

That means they prob will not check if they are ordering drink. Will your friend, as parent feel comfortable about their kids stay overnight under influence?

I guess she feels confident that she can trust her daughter. She is a really smart, responsible girl.

I'm sure Natalie Holloway's parents felt the same way. I have two dd's 19 and 17. While I trust them completely, I can't always trust the environments they are in.

You took the words right out of my mouth...My kids are older now, they were extremely responsible and I trusted them when they were that age. But, at that age they are a little egocentric and think that nothing will happen to them.
I don't believe kids that age think things through thoroughly. It's not their fault as most times they do not have the life experience to know better.
