  • NEW TS OWNER!! Question about Kaua'i!

Just got in...still waiting the 30 days to close...

Very excited....lots of people very skeptical but I don't think anyone realizes how much the industry has changed in the last 5-7 years...

Anyway, I really hope I am making a great investment for my future in saving money on traveling...

For Kaua'i, looking to exchange my week for either The Point at Poipu OR the Marriott's Kauai Beach Club in Lihue....(the pool there looks seriously like the most amazing thing I've ever seen LOL)

Can someone tell me which is better in terms of actual rooms/accomodations, as well as location, etc. The wife and I will be in a 1br unit and looking to go Jan-March sometime of 2009.

Thanks to all for the advice and I look forward to becoming a valued member of this community! Someone tell me I made a great decision and will save myself TONS of money by exchanging my week to travel to exotic places at great resorts and pay relatively very little money...Someone tell me I did a GOOD thing, lol.

Okay back to question at hand, Point at Poipu or Marriot's Kauai Beach Club in Lihue??? Thanks to all!!!!

I should add being very close to the beach (walkable) is a huge plus...I understand Poipu may have a far more likelihood of seeing whales? And also maybe better snorkeling? But that the Bay in Lihue may provide better swimming? At both places, will the water be warm? I am hoping this is a win-win situation as I am tearing out my hair trying to make a decision between these two places. Please help!

      Back up a second...

WHAT did you buy, and how much did you pay and WHEN did you sign the contract?

Both places are nice The Point at Poipu is on the ocean with a short walk to a beach with sand on it and they have two and thee bedroom places that are nice they have washer and dryer and a full kitchen. The Marriott's Kauai Beach Club has a sandy beach in a bay I have not been in side any of the rooms just to the pool area which was very nice I don't think you can go wrong with both places.

Yup, all this matters in terms of your ability to trade to Hawaii - I hope u don't have a week in Orlando

LOL see can you tell I'm new??

Got in at pre-construction on the new Mountain Villas the a Welk resort in Escondido/San Diego. Was okay buying because I know the demand for So Cal is always very high. Would NOT have bought in Orlando! LOL, but thanks for looking out! Pre-construction price for 1week was 16k, once development at phase7/8, that price will be 40+. I am on a points system, 240,000pts every other year, rollover allowed for 3 full years...Read online something like 98% of owners at this resort get 1st choice and 100% get 1 of their 3.

Okay, so NOW am I an idiot or made an okay choice?? Contract signed a week or so ago. Wife and I are very excited about it...unless you tell me that I really should not be, haha!

Thanks Dale! I think we could still trade to Poipu and take the "lockout" side of a 2bdrm. I think I prefer the Marriott, but not sure if it bothers me or not to have very little animal life activity in the water...is Poipu FAR away from LiHue or could we go there for a day trip while staying at the Marriott to see a lot of marine life and snorkel, etc? Thanks to all, really awaiting responses nice from Lawren and Gray! Thanks!

should also add that the cost for 1 week at 1bdrm is 120,000 pts, so its a month of travel allocated every 2 years (1 bonus week per week of travel, so a month total)...

soooo tell me exchanging to hawaii won't be a problem and tell me I made a good investment??? ORRR tell me I'm a moron and got ripped off!

last thing (again, can ya tell I'm BRAND spankin' new!), will basically NEVER use this resort to STAY (live like 2 hrs from there) -- will use it for day facilities, free golf, water park, etc, but exchange rate is supposed to be very good for so cal so plan is to use it for constant exchanges both domestic and international....

waiting anxiously for good or terrible feedback....NERVOUS...

I'm not sure what the recission period is in California but if you can rescind DO IT NOW! Follow the instructions in the contract to the letter.

You have overpaid by about $12k or more for that amount of RCI points and that isn't even asking what your annual maintenance fee is.

If you can't rescind because your date is passed then we will help you get the best out of your purchase but resale is much preferred especially since you will be trading.

This isn't even going into the fact that RCI points will not get you into a Marriott, maybe the Point at Poipu if you are flexible in your travel timeframes OR the fact that the Point at Poipu is 80,500 points for a week, which certainly isn't a month of vacation each year.

                    I agree.....
and I think OP also said it is an EOY ownership????

..... if you are passed the time to cancel your contract....

See if you can reserve at your resort weeks 23-34 - this would have a high trade value.

To get a Marriott resort in Hawaii - you would need a very strong Interval International trader - and Marriott owners have a 24 day window where only other Marriott owners can trade into these units.
So it would be unlikely that u would get that trade.

If you want to go to Hawaii all the time - it is usually better to buy where u want to go - resale.

edit - is this Lawrence Welk Points or RCI points that u have purchased???

                        Uh oh....

would it change your opinion if I told you it was II, not RCI??? Sorry if I left this very important piece of info out! I was told that every week anywhere is 120,000, no such thing on this program as having to pay the difference in points depending on certain properties or "values" or anything...it's just anywhere I want to go, 120,000pts for a week for 1bdrm...I looked into resales at like 3-5k, but those had specific weeks, only 1 week of time with no bonus week...instead we got 4 weeks of travel, NO specific week, it's all floating/flex week program....

I am really nervous now.......please tell me now that I have said II instead of RCI changes your opinion completely?!??! Oh no....very nervous, please respond! Thank you very much!!

No it would not change my mind and there is no such animal as Interval Points.

Please, if you can, rescind and let us help you. You'll be even happier in the end.

I suspect u have purchased LAWRENCE WELK points at the resort - not RCI points.
I think you are saying u can reserve a 1BR anytime during the year for 120,000 LW points and deposit the week in II.

                              Does this sound right???
