RESCIND!!! Buy a 6K contract from ebay or a reseller for less than $4000, then you can rent credits from other owners for 6-7 cents and make all the short stays you want. Don't forget Bonus time, you can book lots of stays and pay no housekeeping. wmowners.com has a ton of info on how to use your account.

      Worldmark

I own several timeshares and Worldmark is my favorite. It is great for a few days here and there and bonus time. Check to see if the re-sale you are buying is affiliated with RCI or II or both. Mine is affiliated with both and it give sme sooo many options.

I have several south african timeshares that I bank with RCI and then change over to extra worldmark points.

      I love it! Enjoy

I am another happy WorldMark owner, telling you to RESCIND now.

We own 9000 WM credits which we bought in 1999. We have stayed at many WorldMark resorts. We have also traded into many of the best resorts in the US. We couldn't be happier with our ownership.

My brother in law bought a small contract to try WorldMark out. Within a year, he bought another one to double his account size. You might do the same. If you have the cash, buy 5000 or 6000 point, fully loaded contract. Use it for a year or two. If you decide it's not for you, you will be able to sell it with at a small loss. If you buy from Wyndham, you will sell at a huge loss. There is nothing in Travelshare that is worth thousands of dollars.
Travelshare is just a red herring to make you think you're missing out by not buying from the developer.

          thanks again for your opinions.

I have been checking into this a little more. One thing I am wondering about are the maintenance fees and exchange fees. It seems that the initial outlet of money for worldmart through resale would be a good thing. But, as the points go up, so do the fees! Is it really worth it for someone that doesn't travel every year. I know the points carry over for one year, but you still have to pay the fees. Maybe it would be better to just rent! Does anyone know of another club that doesn't charge so much in fees??

These are good questions, and reasons why you should take your time in buying anything!

One way to think about timeshare is to estimate what your typical vacation pattern is, and to buy only when the total costs (including opportunity costs on the purchase) of owning are lower than renting. I prefer the ownership costs be lower by some margin, because owning has higher risk---of annual fee increases, special assessments, etc.

Another way to think about timeshare is that it can be a way to increase the amount of vacation you have each year at a modest increase in cost---provided you buy smart.

I think most people here probably have a little bit of both. I know my initial purchase was strictly a rent vs. buy decision for my annual late-February Florida trip. Subsequent purchases have been ways to inexpensively extend.
