You may also need to look at the resort directories of RCI and II to see which one has the locations that you want to visit. If you want to visit South Africa-RCI is the one with all the resorts. If you want to visit Acadia National park- II has the 2 closest resorts-RCI is 60 miles or more from the main park. Both companies have the resort directories on line.

One additional consideration is that RCI rents out or wants to rent out well over 50,000 weeks a year. This has resulted in a lot of members noting that availablity to exchange has decreased in the last few years.

Thank you all so much. You've been very, very helpful. Along with my boss, who is an avid TS traveler and whose been watching our thread (Hi George !), you've helped me come to a decision between the two companies! I'll be depositing pronto.

Once your week is deposited, it will be interesting to hear what you "see" when searching on II...keep us posted!

Any feedback greatly appreciated.
Cypress Pointe is a VRI managed resort, which changes everything.

Normally, I would say that II is a much better organization than RCI. However, II seems to give very low trade value for Orlando trades. More importantly, in this case, depositing into RCI will give you VRI trade priority, which is very valuable assuming that one has a red week (which you do, because RCI considers all year in Orlando to be red.)

VRI manages a high proportion of the inventory on Cape Cod. In general, you should have no trouble trading this into Cape Cod for the summer (not sure how the late deposit for 2008 will affect that.) VRI also manages a fair amount of Southern California inventory, but you will not have the trade power to trade into California in the summer (off season, you will be able to trade there.)

The lock-off at Cypress Pointe (assuming you're in Phase 1, and not the Grandvillas) is just a hotel room with no bathroom privacy. I don't think it can be deposited stand-alone into RCI, but I'm not sure. I think maybe it can be deposited into II, but again, I'm not sure. The person to ask is John Chase (user ID Timeos2). He is President of the HOA Board there.

VRI resorts get 3 years for the price of 2 in RCI. Assuming you plan to trade for another VRI resort, I don't think a late deposit will hurt you as much as it usually does in RCI, although I'm not certain. To see if you will want to trade for a VRI resort, you can check the VRI website at Vacation Resorts International - Everywhere You Want to Rent a Vacation to see if you like their inventory.

If I were you, I'd join both II and RCI. II lets you search even before you deposit.

VRI is also starting its own trade system, VRI*ety. I don't think Cypress Pointe is part of VRI*ety yet, but it probably will be for next year. VRI*ety also lets you search before depositing.

All great info. Thanks so much. I'm very excited at the prospect of Cypress Pointe becoming a part of the VRI trade system.
Armed with this knowledge and again - Georges good advice (and yes he's on the boards here ) I am only going to go with II for this year and hope for the best with my late deposit. Next year I will see what VRI*ety will have to offer.

I will keep you all posted on how it works out with II and what we decided on for a trade.

Thank you all again for your wonderful and helpful advice!
