The Grand Mayans are easy to trade into because there are so many new units being built all the time. I just came back from 2 weeks at the Grand Mayan - Rivera Maya. I have exchanged into the Grand Mayans for 6 weeks now in the past 2 1/2 years at both the Riviera Maya and Nuevo Vallarta locations. They were very easy exchanges to make and I went during very busy times. This will be true for some time as long as they keep adding new units.
A factor that I don't think was stressed is size, both unit size and resort size. The Allen House is desirable as it's central London, but not a large resort as was the Crane until they started building the Residences. Same for Sunset Ridge in St. John. All these have been historically tough trades, but desirable locations.
As for trading with (as opposed to trading into), my Allen House can see everything. Too bad I never deposit it, but my trust factor with RCi is low and they'd probably rent it out instead of giving it to someone in queue.
3 bedrooms have a following especially for families, extended families and friends traveling together.

SFX comes instantly to mind. There are others.
As for St John, THAT was a first in RCI and I have been looking at caribbean every day for years.Lawren

Best Trades
Hi! I am fairly new timeshare owner and wondered the myself which locations are the best as far as trade. It's obvious as some of you stated that you want a place like Miami/Fort Lauderdale in the winter, Colorado during the ski season, etc. Also, I understand that your trade is according to the gold crown status, and some nice resorts such as Marriott will have a higher trading power.
My question is as far as location and location only, what do you recommend? I know that Orlando is a bad one because they are so saturated unless you own one directly from Disney.
I own 3 timeshares now through e-bay and I would like to add one more to my collection. The 3 that I own are all beach locations; Wyndham in Myrtle Beach (points), Resort on Cocoa Beach (float) one on the beach at Vero Beach Florida.
Looking at E-bay I see a gold crown timeshare (float) in Branson Missouri. Would that be a bad trade? It is a 2 bedroom unit, Suites at Fall Creek.
Sorry for the long e-mail and I have learned quite a bit from this particular thread so thank you!

In fact, RCI not only doesn't seem to boast trade power based on quality, its system actually reduces the trade potential of high quality resorts, by preventing them from trading into lower quality resorts.
In terms of high trade power, there are a number of good posts here. SoCal summer, upper midwest summer, Cape Cod summer, London and New York, Hawaii -- all strong. However, some of these locations are too expensive to be cost effective as traders.
In Europe, Ireland is high demand, low supply, as is much of Italy, especially Venice.
As for New York, Manhattan Club's trade power went down when management started bulkbanking.

If we are talking RCI there are 3 or 4 non-recommended locations you mention Orlando which is one, the others historically have been Williamsburg, Branson and Las Vegas.
The reason I am slightly hesitant to tell you NO is the resort you mention. Without the particulars this isn't an easy answer. That is one of the Diamond resorts and I am no Diamond expert. I don't know if you are talking a deeded week or anything else. Diamond comes in many flavors. Diamond, in most but not all cases, now trades thru II. Owners have reported good trades using II.
I would wander over to the Diamond Resorts forum and do some reading if I were you.Lawren

More trade info........
Think this way.....ski,scuba,top metro locations, islands, US West / East coastal areas in prime season.
Locations-Regarding Islands there is only so much land to build and limited beachfront. There is only so many ski out/mountainside,beachfront or lakefront units.
Facilities-on site or in unit washer/dryers,full kitchens, 2 bedrooms or lockoffs. Children programs/amenties. Best combo to get good trades and/or rents.
President's school week vacation/week 7 in certain beach or ski areas
July 4th week
Christmas week in some places but not everywhere
SW Florida-Longboat key, Siesta Key/Sarasota,Sanibel Island and Marco in winter months.
Outer Banks NC , Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head SC Prime Summer
Cape Cod-late June to mid August. We have only 2 months of warm ocean temps.
Summer weeks June and more so July-kids and educators are out. August is not as popular as the other months since colleges /elementary/secondary are in session and there is sports practice.
Do not buy-low value off season weeks blue/white/green/bronze or weeks in hurricane or slush season no matter how good a deal.
Shoulder seasons or prime are best.
There are resorts I would not buy unless I used them everyyear based on purchase price and MF.
I asked myself before I bought my first TS- Where do people want to go the most and in what month? Then I researched from there. Indicates top trade destinations!
Look at Maintenance fees and amenities or what you get for the money $$$. How big is the resort and how stable is the HOA in case owners do not pay the MF or if a Special assessment is needed for upkeep of grounds, furniture and applicances? Do owner/visitor comments reflect disrepair and dirty units? In this economy how costly is it to get there?

Thank you all for so much information! I trade with RCI and last year traded my vero beach, beachfront studio at Driftwood Inn (week 35) for a 2 bdrm, 2 bath brand new unit in Orlando for a convention. I thought that was pretty cool as I bought that one for $1 and the maintenance is only $400+ a year. Yeah, week 35 is not the best week but it does include labor day most years.
Thanks for all the information and especially about the least desirable locations such as Williamsburg, Las Vegas & Branson. For some reason, I thought Vegas was highly sought aftter looking at E-bay. After hearing that, nix on the Branson as I never planned to vacation there (just not into a place like that).
Now thinking maybe I should buy into one in Sedona AZ, float. There is one for sale now at Sedona Vacation Club/Los Abrigados, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths gold crown with a maintenance fee of $760. Now someone may beat me out on this one but if so, it wasn't meant for me to get it! Do you think that would be a good buy? It will be over $1,200 with closing fees.
Thanks again everyone!

Survey - Sedona Timeshare
Sedona timeshare:
Bidding ends on this timeshare in about an hour. What is the general consensus on this timeshare? The bidding is not in the $700 range plus MF of $760 and closing. This is a gold crown float week.
Sedona Vacation Club/Los Abrigados
Please reply back and let me hear your opinion. I am interested to know if anybody thinks this is worth it.
