  • Help for a 'possible' New Owner

Husband and I are looking at becoming TS owers. We have a friend wanting to sell her's and the $$ seems good for a 1BR at the Surrey Grand Crowne in Branson, MO. The points are 55,000 floating week.

I guess our biggest questions are... We like Branson, but also want to travel. Will 55k pts/1br get us to the "hot" travel places, or will we end up in Branson year after year. We already know that exchanging in the busiest times is out, but is exchanging difficult?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Lisa,

    Welcome to TS4M's

I am not familiar with the points you refer to, but hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

One thing I will say is that Branson is an over-built area, and normally does not have very strong trading power. If the points entitle you to a "premium week" that would certainly help.

What areas are you hoping to trade into, and when would you be traveling?

Not sure about that program. But it is with II

You can see some simple description about that program at banking chart
Grand Crowne Resorts -- Owner's Area
      and general point program description
Grand Crowne Resorts -- Owner's Area
      and point chart
Grand Crowne Resorts -- Owner's Area

Based on that, you will not be able to travel in II's Prime season. Have no idea about II either, so could not tell you the trading power of that resort, but you may need to have at least enough points in 2 BD prime season.

      Welcome though.

Just simple glance, if you are thinking trading now, I would not like its point structure at flex time.

            Thanks for the info!!

So my 55k pts would be = to 55k pts anywhere? I see some places for sale with 100k+ points, so that is just the size of the accomodation?

            Thanks again for the info!

Each point system is different. They do not all equal the same thing. Generally, the lager the unit, the better the season, and the better the resort, the higher the point value. Points systems are based on room size, and season. You need more points to get a 1 bedroom during peak season, then you do during other seasons. Each season requires a different number of points for the same unit.

In your situation, you would only be able to obtain a studio during the prime season. That means that you would only be able to put in a request in II, for a studio in another location.

Keep in mind that a studio in Branson is not going get you much trading power, even into other studios, during peak season.

I agree: Branson is not the best trading power. If it were me, I'd hold off on buying the friend's timeshare--believe me, she won't be successful in selling it to someone else. They are soooo easy to buy, but they are very, very, difficult to sell. No one else is going to just step in and take it off her hands, and if someone does do that, the number of re-sales on the market is mind-boggling.

Instead, read on this forum until you understand the differences in the various programs and really have a better feel for what would work well for you. Then start shopping for a re-sale. Look on ebay.com; timeshares (many in very good places) go for practically nothing there; look at some of the major re-sellers (like Holiday Group--just do a google search for timeshares + resale and you'll be stunned at the number of sites that come up).

This is not a purchase to rush.
