Wouldn't the resort apply the rule to all exchangers who showed up within a 4 year period for a second time? Obviously from John's (and others on these boards) experience it seems that the rule only applies when using RCI. Why is that?

Just curious since I have no interest in going to any restricted resorts.
The bulk of TMC trades through RCI, RCI provides the rules/regulations that allow a resort to request/manage this. The resort does this as a sales tool, to try to make you buy if you want to come back more often. The resort usually puts the onus on RCI while RCI says it's the resort. In actauality it's an agreement between the two. If you own even one every other year week the 1in4 doesn't apply. If you're on the points side of things the 1in4 doesn't apply. The other exchange companies don't do this, they don't provide the resort this function. But similar type things do exist in II, where they have regional blocks based on where you own.

Look!! my comment was in response to Brother Coony about seeing if 2 reservation would be honored within the 1-4 @ TMC. Has nothing to do with believing or not.

Perhaps I should reregister as "Basil Ganglia". Don't have a good avatar for that yet.

I think the summary of this thread is as follows:

                  1) RCI has a 1-in-4 rule that it is enforcing and any trades through RCI weeks. It doesn't matter if you exchanged your upcoming Manhattan Club prior to the institution of the new rule. It will be enforced as if it were always in place.

                  2) Any independent exchange company such as SFX who gets their inventory directly from owners are exempt from the 1-in-4 rule because the exchanger is ultimately dealing with the owner as the owners guests using the independents as a facilitator.

                  3) RCI Points exchanges into RCI Points inventory for Manhattan Club is NOT subject to the 1-in-4 rule.

I hope this makes sense to those reading this thread for the first time trying to figure out what is going on with Manhattan Club.

Wow!! Clear concise & to the point. I think I'm done with the 1-4 issue...for now!

                      Welcome Alisa.

Are those stays booked last year for future dates? If so, then it might be worth checking whether the resort will enforce the rule or not. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. So I suppose you can risk it and hope they don't, since it's really only 3 nts in total.

I had RCI points for 6 yrs and it worked great when it worked. I had Australian RCI pts though so gave it up due to hassles and inconsistencies in using it. Also, because I'm enjoying exchanging through other companies and DAE who happen to have a representative here to answer questions from TS4Ms members. Hopefully, RCI Pts will work well for you.

In case you haven't checked out the SFX forum at TS4Ms yet, it's here and their website is here.

                      All the best.

                        Hey Sydney:

Both were booked in 1/08 for travel in 10/08 & 11/08 to TMC. I did also use RCI pts last year 3x @ HGVC Seaworld Orlando (3 total wks) and although they had/have the 1-4 rule @ HGVC, never had an issue so we'll see if TMC enforces it. Everyone on this thread has said it won't be so I'm hoping as it would be shame as I have out of town friends who are joining us in 11/08.

Thanks for the SFX info, will be useful.
