Hello all! I'm sure some of the questions everyone will see from me have been answered a thousand times and I apologize in advance! From what I have read, this seems to be the most informative site I have found but it also made me feel pretty stupid about this whole "trading" or "exchanging". I guess my first question is how do you know or figure what your "trading power" is? I own a 2bdrm unit at Cabins of Green Mountain in Branson...I have a float week.

Trading power is measured different ways by different exchange companies.
Some go strictly by size. No questions asked regarding season.
Some are very size/ quality oriented.
Some care not a whit about size but will award great trade power for area and season if deposited far enough in advance.
Some won't take your week unless it is a GC or whatever II is calling 5* these days.
The big thing is knowing where those companies get inventory, knowing where you want to go and when you want to go. If you can tell us the answers to those questions, you have just accessed the best of the best <some call us hardcore but we really are very nice > on telling you how to get the most of your Branson week.

Welcome to TS4M's
There are a number of factors that would determine trading power on a particular week. Supply, and demand is number one.....The rating of the week that you own, (which season, and which week within the season) as well as the rating of the resort itself. How many bedrooms, where the resort is located, etc.
Other things that would come in to play would be various preferences given by companies such as Marriott, Starwood, etc. These companies, as well as others have various preference periods. Marriott's is generally 24 days, shorter during flexchange ( 59 days prior to check-in) . Starwood is 3 days. During the preference period, only same name resorts are able to make an exchange.
Generally speaking, Branson is quite built up, with lots of resorts, and choices of weeks are often available. I'm guessing that a good summer week, such as July 4th, or any July week, would be your strongest trader, followed by holiday weeks. Memorial Day, etc.
Hope that helps you, a little.Angela

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Thank you! II is calling my resort "select".
I have a request in for 1 of 3 different Disney world properties
1 Old Key West
2 Beach club Villas
3 Boardwalk Villa
The time frame is from the last week in May '09 to the week b4 July 4th of '09
This far in advance I hope I can get into any of those. But everything I've read has me a little nervous. I know I can get into something "around" DW but my family has never been (except me) and i want them to experience everything! So, you can probably tell where my next questions are heading!

I think that you have a very good chance of getting a Disney in May, and in early June before the kids are out of school. August & Sept seems to be Disney's slowest months, followed by January. Also, the weeks between Thanksgiving & Xmas.
Surprisingly, there have been more Disney's available then usual. I think the fact that they are building more resorts, and many of the original owners are now looking to do more exchanging, is playing a role.
Bottom line is I think you have a very good shot at getting what you're looking for. You might want to add the other Disney's to your request, just to increase your chances a little more.
Good Luck!!!Angela

Thank you. I know i have quite a while b4 the trip but I'm still nervous! I guess I'll look and see if i can find a DW board and start posting there! This is sad I'm a 42 year old man and i'm getting excited already! I just wish they would get me a villa so i can stop worrying and start planning all the other (fun) stuff! The way I feel it will probably be next year b4 i get something...

It is VERY good that you requested your exchange early.
Could u tell us which week in Branson you reserved to trade - I know u said your ownership floats - but which weeks does it float in???
According to the II travel demand index, Weeks 22-31 have the highest demand followed by weeks 32-42.
The rest of the year is average to below average - very low time is 49-51, 1-8

What you do is call the resort - are u allowed to reserve 12 months out?
If so, call in June/July 2008 for June/July 2009, call in June/July 2009 for June/July 2010, etc.
After you get the reservation, call II, give them your reservation number and check in date or with most resorts, you can deposit online.
weeks 22-31 = 115-125 travel demand
weeks 32-42 = 105-110
week 17 is 95
