I have a couple questions as I think this forum is interesting.
Many people mention exchange fees when arguing why they should not tip. What does an exchange fee have to do with the local resort operations?
If free transportation were not offered to the maids to the resorts in the mountains of Lake Tahoe would you have maids? If the answer is no then that is simply the cost of doing business.
I am unsure what the difference is between a bartender and a maid is. As a homeowner you are paying the maids salary and by nature she/he does not need tips you feel he/she is fairly compensated. With a bartender/waiter should the restaurant then not be compensating said bartender/waiter fairly such as you are with the low paid maid?
With regards to the $20 fee to change sheets. I guarantee that the maid did not see 1 penny of that but, that increased the operating budget of your HOA. I can not say that I remember or have cash to tip every time I stay in a hotel but, I certainly try to take care of the maid as in my opinion she has the worst job of all.
