  • Trade 1 Marriott week for 2 weeks?

Hi all... Newbie here... Just an easy question for you pros!

I'm looking at buying a very high demand timeshare week at Marriott's Timber Lodge in Lake Tahoe. I'm looking at a Week 51 or 52. I like the idea of spending Christmas or New Years in the snow since we don't have any where I come from! But I don't plan on doing Tahoe every year. I'd like to go to Orlando for 2 weeks maybe every other (or third) year, but in early December, maybe weeks 48 and 49.

Do you think it would be possible to trade one high demand week for 2 not so desirable weeks in another resort? Or does II only allow a 1 for 1 trade?

    Thanks for any help!

When you deposit a high demand week in II ( like your week 52 at Tahoe) II will give you an AC ( accomendation certifiicate) which is good fo a very cheap exchange into a low demand/high supply timeshare area. You shouldn't have any problem using it to go to Orlando in the fall.

You can also lock-off your 2 bedroom TS and deposit it a a 1bd and a studio if your resorts lets you do that. ( I'm not sure if Timber lodge has lockoffs)

    Good Luck
    Bill

If you want to go to Orlando in early December, you should be able to buy a II cash Getaway week pretty reasonable at a Marriott. You might want to rent out your Week 52 on Redweek and use the money to buy two Getaway weeks via Interval and have spending money, too. Just an idea.

As Bill says, you could also lock off your Timberlodge 2 bedroom (I think Timberlodge has lock-offs?), receive a bonus week (Accomodation Certificate) for the one bedroom, and also have the studio efficiency to trade. So that would give you three weeks to trade via Interval.

I would think an inter-island plane ticket to Mouna Kea would be a lot cheaper than Tahoe!

All kidding aside, as others above have pointed out, if Orlando is where you're interested in going when not staying at Timber Lodge, that should be easily doable with an AC which you should easily get in exchange for a week 52 Marriott Tahoe unit.

The year you don't go to Tahoe you could lock off the 2 bedroom and II should give you a bonus week for depositing the 1 bedroom. That means you would have (1) a bonus week (accomodation certificate) (2) the 1 bedroom deposit (3) the studio efficiency deposit.

Some 2 bedroom TS have the ability to "Lock-off" which means that one side of the TS has a seperate door to the hall and you can split the 2 bd TS into a 1 bd TS and a studio TS. BUT looking at the description of the rooms at Timber Lodge it doesn't look like that is possible for you.

So You can deposit your week and trade for other week but since week 52 is such a good week at a good resort, I'd use that week to trade for something really great. Use the bonus week - called an "AC" with II to reserve a week in Orlando.

I would rent the holiday week at Timber Lodge for big $$, then go whereever I wanted with the proceeds, you should easily get two off-season weeks, or more, for that.

You can Getaways to the Marriotts in Orlando for $400 - $600. There are some nice RCI resorts you can get for less. And the first two weeks in December are pretty low on the demand scale.

I have traded a studio lock-off into 2BR Marriott Orlando the first week of December, plus the bonus week/accommodation cert will allow u to book the second week u want in a 2BR for $299 plus tax - and you will still have the 1BR side of your 2 bedroom lock-off to trade

Wow... a plethora of options. I was told all the 2br at Marriott Timber Lodge are lockoffs so that looks like it just adds to the number of options. With this many options I may be able to get away with just purchasing a 2br durring regular Platinum Ski season and achieve what I want!

Now its just a matter of resale or not....

All we told u can be done with a 'regular' Platinum week - what can't be done is skiing every year week 51/52.....if u want that guarantee at the Marriott, you need to buy THAT week.

The only reason to buy a Marriott TS from Marriott is for the option of trading your TS for Hotel reward points. For that you'll pay about $10,000 to $20,000 more than buying resale. Since you can buy hotel points direct from Marriott for about the same price as you MFs will cost. It is a no brainer!! BUY RESALE!!

Yes, buy resale...although in my Marriott example, I purchased first week pre-construction - my week is being sold by Marriott for double what i paid....but those days of great deals are GONE.

Do your homework and buy resale.
