  • Sales Tours in Kauai - - worth attending?

We'll be in Kauai in September, at Shearwater and Lawai Beach.

We quit taking sales tours years ago, after some torturous experiences in Mexico. But this trip we have some extra time and I'd like to learn about what's on offer, if the pitch isn't too intense and the gift is adequate.

Any suggestions what I should look for?

We did the Shearwater tour about 4 years back I do not recall what we got but it was low preasure. We were more interested in buying into Pahio Ka Kao but backed out after thinking about it.
Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Probably going to be Wyndam Pahio Bali Hai

We went to the presentation in 2004 while visiting Shearwater, which was at Bali Hai. Bai Hai is the only Pahio group that has and is still building(last condo building is up and being finished now) with a clubhouse spot encircled in black sheeting, but no foundation work. Clubhouse will be the last construction project for Bai Hai. Might be worth it to atleast visit and see. They went from 1 b/r units with 1 or 2 baths, and 2 b/r 2baths and switched to just 2 b/r and 3 b/r of which some or all are more upscale, more points and more cost. Might be worth it to visit and see what you can get for your tour. We were just there last month for 10 days and owners like us got nothing unless we went to an update, but if you sign up and complete one, they gave you something like a $100 voucher to use at various restaurants and then also got a discount card for area discounts. The other Wyndam Pahio places are all built out to the best of my knowledge. While I bought @ Bali Hai in 2004 as a timeshare "virgin" which trades with RCI, if I had to do it all over again I would have preferred to look into timeshares at Hanalei Bay Resort(also Princeville) which trades with II and the units at HBR have just the most breath taking views from many of the units. IMHO. Have a wonderful trip. We traded into the Point at Poipu for the first week and then Bali Hai for the next 10. We had so much fun finding Kipu Falls and the amazing Napali canyon outlook at the very end of the canyon road. I even saw Pierce Brosnan on the beach on this trip. No presentations this trip per my DW. Gary

        Go to the Marriott Waiohai

Marriott puts on a good, informative presentation on their timeshares, with very low pressure. Granted, you won't get the bigger fancy handouts, but you may get a free dinner (which can be mighty pricey in Kauai!). Not only will they tell you about their local and Hawaiian timeshares, but about all of them. They are really increasing their inventory. And despite what many think--Marriott is still the highest rated and best respected name in timesharing.

We ended up doing Wyndham Bali Hai - - the reward was cash off on Na Pali coast boat trips and helicopter rides.

90 frustrating minutes - we explained to the salesman that we owned RCI Weeks, RCI Points and Wyndham Points, all bought at resale for pennies on the dollar. So he spent his time badmouthing all three systems - - according to him the only thing worth owning is VIP Wyndham, and he could sell us an additional 130,000 points for $20,000 that might get us there (if what we already own could be qualified for VIP).

I told him VIP would be nice, but not nice enough to pay $20,000 for points that go for less than $1,500 at resale.

When it was clear he wouldn't make a sale, he questioned my wife how long she'd been able to stay married to me (the answer being, "longer than you've been alive"). His parting word to me was that two kinds of people don't buy from him - - people who "don't have dollars" and people who "don't have sense."

There should be a third group of people ---- those that know about resale!
