  • Friend just bought Westgate from developer! Keep or cancel?

A friend just told me they bought Westgate from developer for $13,000. I've told her that, if she's in the rescind period to cancel. If not, join the discusion and learn how to really enjoy timeshare. But, I think she'd enjoy seeing other opinions rather than just one.

So tell her what you think guys. Should she keep what she bought or cancel and buy resale?

If you can't convince them, what is the world coming to?
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Better to wrestle a bear and lose

She will rue the day that her right to rescind ended and she became involved in any resort with the Wastegate name. Friends don't let friends buy anything CFI. Warn her as strongly as possible and hope she see's the wisdom.

Yes, she should rescind the contract. Westgate is one of those organizations people should avoid.

I don't know ONE PERSON happy with their ownership.

Anyone know the timeframe for TN? Today was day 7. I'm hoping it's 10 days but I don't have her contract to look at (we're at work). I believe she's seen the light. Timeshare is wonderful but getting timeshare with a good company at resale pricing is even better.

I own a 2 bedroom Westgate Park City ski week and it is AWESOME. I paid about $25k on the resale market as they are about $55k from Westgate.

I would NEVER buy any other Westgate (besides Park City) and never buy from the developer.

The Tenn Westgate is decent (not great), but you can easily rent there for cash for less than owning.

Thanks guys. It always helps to hear it from more than one person. I believe we've saved her family $13,500 and bought them enough time to research timeshares and how to buy resale if they decide it fits their family needs. A little peek at some of the Redweek adds for the same resort was also enlightening.

One thing the did tick me off about her contract (she had it out in her truck) was that the salesman apparently "forgot" to put the how-to-cancel paper in with her contract.

I loved the lies they told her. Two free cruise certificates (ICE Gallery) and 12 extra vacation weeks/year (I.I. getaways). Sometimes I wonder how some of these salesmen sleep at night. Apparently, they don't own their own product and believe everything the developer tells them. Otherwise very few could keep a straight face telling some of the whoppers they tell tours.

How did she get the information on how to cancel? Just curious.

I'm glad you - and the people here were able to get her to rescind.

                    LOL, I stand corrected!
A ski week in Park City certainly is an excellent ownership,,,,maybe that is why you never hear from unhappy owners of that property - especially resale owners.

Doug, I hope your friend is able to get out of the deal.

We were happy owners for almost 10 years at Wastgate Villas BUT eventually they managed to ruin it. My bet is Steamboat will eventually be pushed to unhappiness as well unless he decides to dump it before the inevitable happens and CFI/Wastegate screw over those owners as well. It's only a matter of time not if it will happen when Wastegate is involved.

Now that's the truth. After a couple of years of quiet, Westgate always finds a way to make things miserable and it may be just a matter of time for Park City too.

Since the information wasn't included in her papaerwork, if I hadn't happened to ask her how she enjoyed her trip to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, she might not have ever received or found the information.

As it is, she will send certified express mail her notice of cancelation to both the sales office and the home office for Westgate in FL. We even had to look up the TN law for cancelling, which is 10 days if you visit the site and 15 days if you buy from a remote location.
