There's a related thread at TUG about renting through TSO - a poster made inquiries on 10 rental properties and didn't get one response.

      Selling timeshare

Hello, I am new to this site. Just found it today I have found buying a timeshare is alot like buying a boat. Easy to do, but when you want to get rid of it for get about it. Anyone with any insight or thoughts on how to sell a timeshare? I am currently a bluegreen bronze owner with 15000 annual points and 11000 saved points. I own at the Fountains in Orlando. Bought thinking would be able to use, and have used once in 3 years. Any insight is appreciated and thank you

        Welcome to TS4Ms Gourdy.

A lot of BlueGreen owners here and very happy ones for the most part. They have there own forum here: Bluegreen Resorts - Timeshare Forums

There would be the place to find out what options you have with your ownership and what valuations are placed on your points and ownership.

I am sorry you haven't been able to use or rent your timeshare/points. Perhaps when you meet your new friends in the BlueGreen forum you will! Fountains from all reports is a lovely property.

          Big difference...

Obviously, to sell virtually anything, one must advertise -- and a reasonable person should certainly expect to pay for said advertising.

That said, there is a wide world of difference between paying an upfront fee company hundreds of dollars to do not much more than pocket that fee, vs. paying a few dollars to place effective advertising on sites like RedWeek or MyResortrNetwork. I sold one timeshare on Bidshares last month --- where advertising is actually FREE.

I've sold four other timeshares in the past year and a half on my own, with a grand total advertising investment of about $150 TOTAL, using only three sites. Personally, I'd no sooner pay an upfront fee "marketer" hundreds of dollars (per listing) than I would jump off a high building roof. But that's just me --- people are certainly free to choose their own paths and empty their own wallets; that's why there is vanilla and chocolate (and strawberry, mocha chip, etc.).

It's hard (impossible, actually) to argue with the number ZERO as the number of timeshares reported sold by upfront fee companies in the TS Today owner survey, regardless of what you think of the magazine (I don't think much of it myself, actually). Rationalize as you wish, but the number ZERO as the selling success rate of upfront fee thieves says all I really need to know....

Joining these forums is a great first step! Educate yourself in the BlueGreen section and get a good idea of the true value of what you own. Boca is one of the most active BlueGreen brokers in the business.

Personally, I hope you'll find info to help you use the ownership, but if not- you'll at least have the knowledge to make good decisions when you try to sell.

            Good luck!
