RCI can't hold their hand either

And thats RCI's fault? Everyone has to put at least a minimal effort in to get decent results in almost anything they do.

Did I say it was RCI's fault?????......overselling expectations and promises (Red is Red and you can exchange to where ever you want in the world) and under delivering.....yeah....RCI and its vendors/suppliers have a problem with that. I agree more effort needs to be put in......but that is the problem....it is sold as simple, easy to do.....and we know it isn't....look how hard most of us work to get the exchanges we want. The people I am talking about put in the minimal effort....that is about it.....and they end up with nothing in many cases....so they share the blame with RCI IMHO.

But if you follow the thread this was not my point.......my point is it is hard to draw any real conclusions from this poll which in very non-scientific and the sample of respondents is very skewed vs. the general RCI population.

          Option missing

The option to rent a week because you were unable to exchange but NOT from RCI would be a useful option. That is the one that we would select. We have a reservation for July, but not through RCI because we have not had a confirmation yet and would not give RCI the money for a week that we should be able to exchange into.

Given that an option that matches our situation, which would we select???

No I could not find the week via RCI exchange nor RCI's rental program. - 1.64%

I think this is the best fit for your situation.

Thought about that, but doesn't address the issue that we can rent the week that we can confirm.
              Well... well pick one....
We still can't confirm an exchange, so we decided to rent from the "fine folks" at RCI.
Turns out that it cost a little less to rent the week than use the exchange. So, we'll use the week to go to Coranado.

You have Held the following Extra Vacation Week:

Decided not to give RCI any $$$ after all. They wanted $236 to cancel it we confirmed an exchange
Found a better deal that we can cancel up to 3 days before arrival for $25

Good strategy.....now you can get the Bay Club or another nice timshare two to three weeks ahead of time via last call or the other last minute sites for under $300....and then cancel the hotel.....beat them at thier own game except they still make more money renting it even last minute than allowing anyone to exchange in for the measly $149 that they get. Poor RCI.

I think the Royal Kona is the old Hilton hotel.

Yes, it is and we stayed there one time. We had a regular hotel room but with a fantastic view over the water. We traveled with a packaged tour and asked if we could upgrade the room but they gave it to us at no charge. Do they have timeshares there now? They must be suites?

                    Used Another Exchange Company

                    My experience has been:

I couldn't find what I wanted on RCI so I, used another exchange company!

I have used both Interval International and Dial an Exchange.

RCI in class action lawsuit, renting condo's from members space leaving no availabilt

RCI Is overcharging points, giving smaller rooms with less ammenities that cost up to 40 or 50% more that the property the property owners own. I just got back from the grand canyon and ripped off royally. They have 7 or 8 law firms filing class action law suits against them for just such actions, just do a google for RCI and class action law suits and read up. THEY WERE BOUGHT BY WINDHAM a year ago and that's when the stealing began, Windham denies have any thing to do with it, but just by the simple fact they own the company makes them complicit with RCI policy whether they deny it or not - see this link for what the lawsuit implies

Cars thru RCI are overpriced and units you want are unavailable

You have to pay way too many points for a car and if you buy the points, it winds up costing about twice as much money. You also have to settle for what they haven't rented to cash paying customers on the units. As far as I am concerned there is not a good thing to say about them or their PARENT company The Windham Corporation - they are both scamming the members. I am all for a company making a profit if in doing so they take care of their customers - they don't care about their base customers who made them what they are - now it's just all about profit being the most important thing and customers second
