We have an appointment tomorrow with these folks at a local hotel to unload a timeshare. Has anyone had any dealings with these people?

Hold onto your wallet and don't give them any money. They are likely a PCC. Let us know what they have to say. Please don't fall for any 'fake' promises.
"If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

Don't bring credit cards or checks, don't bring the deed to your timeshare.

The general scope of these con artists is to demean the ownership of timeshares. They then will take your timeshare off your hands if you fork over a few thousand dollars to join their (worthless) travel/vacation club.
Bring only scepticism should you go to one of these.

          Thank You all

Thanks for your quick responses. I will not pay a dime for their services, and I will refuse to join any clubs. I had hoped that this was going to be the end of my timeshare experience but sadly it appears from your replies and those elsewhere that it's just another scam. I'm still planning to attend the meeting and will update you fine folks about the experience tomorrow.

And don't be afraid to say loudly as you sit in the waiting room that this company isn't really "buying" timeshares and, after the victim's pay THEM, they will just list the timeshare on ebay.

These kind of companies usually charge you $3,500 to 'relieve you' of your ownership. (only if your TS is paid in full)

And then they turn around and re-sell it on ebay. You were very smart to 'Google' and find a BBS like this.

Most of us are happy timeshare owners as we have learned to use our ownerships for great trips.
Hopefully we can help u achieve this too.

What and when do you own? There are a lot of knowledgable people here that might be able to give you an idea of how to dispose of what you own.

                  The meeting

We arrived at the hotel and inquired about just where the travelexclusive representatives were located in the hotel, one would have thought that someone would have met us in the lobby or at least they would have had a poster on an easel or something. We wandered about the hotel looking for the meeting room and finally found it.

Several groups of folks were sitting about the vestibule of the meeting room filling out forms. I picked up one of the forms from a table full of clipboards, I figured we had better start filling it out although there was no one to tell us what to do. Finally a representative walked over and introduced himself and inquired if we have any questions, we wondered about the format of this meeting, the representative said that we will be treated to a short presentation and then meet individually with a him to work out the details of their purchase. I really wanted to ask if this was going to cost me anything but we were all directed to enter the meeting room where the presentation began.

The host explained that all shares would be sold to an entity named Travel Club and then continued his talk with an explanation of why many folks have become disillusioned with the timeshare concept, our ownership is becoming devalued because of the lack of exclusivity. The promotion of RCI endless vacations and other such programs that sell our weeks over the internet to anyone adversely affect availability well.

The presentation continued with the host's own story of his attempt to sell his timeshare via one of the most advertised organizations. The host never had any contact from any buyer at any time using this method.

Reasons not to buy and prohibitions to selling timeshares culled from media resources highlighted the next few minutes of the talk. Quotes from well respected financial experts were quite compelling and warned against becoming involved in timeshares if you expect to use it as a financial investment. "Timeshares are all about the contract and not the property".

The standard contract used in the timeshare industry and its iron clad elements and interminable attributes were highlighted for a few minutes. Your heirs will become responsible for the maintenance fees, special assessments and other such expenses are inevitably passed along in perfect perpetuity.

This organization will assume ownership of your timeshare, and it starts today. They handle the complete process, closing, resort and developer fees and paperwork. A tax strategy using the capital gains schedule D can help offset the the price of their service which is seven times your maintenance fee of $3495 which ever is less for each contract to be purchased a fifty percent savings on the price will be used for multiple contracts if you have more than one. I did not take the travelexclusive folks up on their offer, of the ten or so groups that were in our presentation only one couple remained after we left. I don't believe anyone sold their contracts to travelexclusive.

Thank you for getting back to us....and as u were forwarned, you didn't fall for their scheme.

But I don't think I would use the phrase "Sold their contracts" - it is very smart marketing on their part - if you 'sold' your contract/deed to them, THEY would be giving YOU $3,495 - not the other way around.
                    Very, very clever!

Now if you REALLY want to sell your TS, we can tell you how to do an ebay auction that would get you a few hundreds dollars depending on ownership - or else hang around here and we will help you best use your ownership for great vacations.

                      An unfortunate choice

A poor choice of words on my part to be sure, guess I've been brainwashed. It's really just a heavy price to pay for the elimination of annual fees.

I suspect the words were theirs , not yours - it just shows how smooth these guys are....

The schedule D thing sounds interesting. My guess is that if you follow their instructions on that you would end up with an audit followed by a fine and interest for anything claimed.
