How to protect your investment
I am very new to the idea of timeshares and so far I am liking the idea more and more. However I am concerned about a few things so if anyone could offer some advise it would be appreciated.
First, when buying a timeshare from an older facility how can you protect yourself and make sure what you think you are buying into is what you get. Specifically, how do you make sure its really not a nasty hole that you would not let your dog sleep in? Short of making a special trip to inspect the property.
Second, I have been told that you should shy away from any timeshare involving any of the big hotel corps which does not guarentee a week. I am presently looking at two different properties both of which are through a major hotel corp, The Hilton Valdoro and the Sheraton Mountain Vista. I feel sure that both locations will be kept up very well but I am not confortable with not being guarenteed a spot as its first come first serve and reservations can be made a year ahead of time. Has anyone experianced any problems with getting the time you wanted at either of these and how far in advance did you make the reservation?
