Hello All looking at buying a TS!

Hello,
I am very new to the TS world... I have attended a presentation before, but I was young and only wanted the gifts, so I did not pay attention. So now here we are, my wife and I love to vacation, we go weekend vacations almost every month, and 1 big week or two each year.

We live in Medford Oregon, so we are possibly looking at a local TS.
We goto Disneyworld every other year, and try to get to Disneyland the same way.
We would like to see other places as well.

So what we would like is to be able to have a place where we can go locally a couple of times a year, then goto any place for a week or longer once a year.

I know next to nothing about TS's and need to learn more. Can anyone point us in a couple of directions to look at?? Thanks you very much!

You can trade into Orlando with pretty much anything or you can buy an Orlando week that you will use each year. Do not buy Orlando to trade. Orlando has to many timeshares and they do not trade as well as they should because of the amount of timeshares there

So... If i were to buy one of those, lets say Running Y Ranch which is about 60 miles from me, could I stay there on some weekends, but then use a week at Disney? How does this work? Thank you very much!

Not like your thinking. If you buy a deeded week you can go to your resort for a week a year depending if you have a floating week or fixed or you can trade it with one of the exchange companies which is an added cost. You will be paying your fees at the resort you own plus add in the dues for the exchange company then the exchange fees. Now if you have a points resort you can do something like what you want to do depending on how much points you have you can travel to both areas or just do a few weekends in your area.

For a points program concentrated on the west coast that allows shorter stays you might want to try Worldmark. Worldmark also has resorts at both Disneyland (brand new) and Disneyworld I believe. There is a Worldmark owners website that could provide many answers.

TS's are mainly weekly vacations. Some TS places will have discounted rates for owners to stay just a few days a week in addition to their regular week.

For the Disney exchance - you will need to find a resort that trades with Interval Internations (they are the only trading company that trades with Disney). AND you need to have a home resort to deposit that is pretty good. If you try to give II an off season week at a so-so resort - they will not let you trade into Disney. If you give them a good week at a good resort you might have the trade power to pull Disney.

My resorts that trade into Disney are Williamsburg Plantation in Virginia and Coconut Palms in New Smyrna Florida.

This new member needs to read a lot more before answers like the one above make any sense. Disney Vacation Club does trade through II but they didn't even insinuate that they had to have DVC, they probably don't even know what it is. VI has resorts at WDW and access to WM at DL and additionally is a points program where you can stay as little as one night. With a join date of Nov08, they should plan on buying no earlier than Feb09 after having digested all they can read in that time.

I'd recommend WorldMark. Cheap to buy, easy to transfer. Even easier to rent credits from other owners to keep your costs down.

WorldMark has lots of resorts within driving distance to anywhere in Oregon.

Ok, so what I would really like is this. I have a friend who had some sort of TS at the running Y resort. He said he had like 10k points that he could use for a week someplace, but would spend weekends at the running y resort buying "bonus" points and using those. He said he was paying like 60 bucks a night, in points, to stay at the running y. He also said he could do this same thing at other resorts in oregon...

What I would like is this.
A week at DW a year or every other, then buy these "bonus" points to stay local during the year... Is that possible? Thanks a ton!

That sounds like Bluegreen. I know they have that type of program as I am a Bluegreen owner. I don't know if other programs or which programs offer bonus nights.

The best advice so far is to keep gathering information, cuz it's pretty obvious you need to.

When you finally get it pinned down, to where you know what you want, check eBay to see if you might pick it up for a buck, or thereabouts.
