  • New member and a question about a resort under construction

    Hi everybody,
I am glad to find a place where timeshare owners can share their good ,and surely, bad experiences.
I live in Finland (that is the one in far north Europe). Last October I bought a week in a resort in Jordan (that is the real Jordan in the middle east, where I originally come from). The resort which is at the Dead Sea will be completed by end of 2009, lets hope so. I paid 7000 USD for that red floating week. Not sure if that sounds like a good deal?! By the way I got the ownership deed, and confirmed from the authorities in Jordan about the company and the resort.

Now my question is, as part of the contract the company should register me in RCI for free the first year after I buy. Till today (more than 3 months passed) they are saying that the card isnt ready yet! Now I am really suspicous, does it take really that long to get the RCI card, and is it actually possible that they can make me a memebership before my resort is up and running? In fact they claimed I can already deposit my week and use it for 2009? And ideas where do I stand?

    All the best

They can give you a deposit before your resort opens. Your resort will take time to sell all of their units. Until they are sold out, they will have extra units that no one owns to give to RCI to make up for the deposit that RCI gives you for a week that doesn't exist yet.

You English is very good, probably better than mine, I didn't see any spelling mistakes for instance.

Since the resort will be completed by the end of 2009 sounds like you are wanting to deposit a 2010 week in RCI and you do not want to use it yourself?

For the RCI membership question, to pay for a year's membership on your own until the resort creates an account for you could be a way of testing. RCI typically verifies with the resort that you have a unit and are an owner able to deposit (at least in the US they do) so if an account is created or not could be knowledge to use. You possibly may get a partial refund if the two accounts are created and want to use the company's one.

The three month time frame is not unusual for certain systems, my first timeshare took about 4 mths for everything to happen. Another, 2-3 weeks on the other end of the scale.
