  • Hi Everybody! I need your knowledge!

How are you people? I hope everyone is good..

My name is Sebastian, I currently live in Miami (FL) with my fiancee Belen. We are from Argentina, but we have been here in Miami for a little over 2 years. We were so lucky to meet great people, and one of these person transferred their ownership to me and my wife. It was going to be a "wedding" gift.

But, as you already know, economy hit us hard. And, unfortunately, we had to postpone our wedding. To make things worst, my entire family as well as her family, live in Argentina. So we were planning to get married in Argentina.
Anyways, all this had to be postponed.

So now my only option is to sell my Timeshare, to be able to have a nice wedding for me and my wife. So, I want to sell it fast.
Well, i dont want to take your time. Basically, I've been calling many places that supposedly advertise and sell timeshares, but they all seem fishy at least!

Do you have any suggestions? I would deeply appreciate your knowledge in this subject.

    Thanks Everybody,
    Sebastian

You can place a Classified Ad here, and/or on other forums. Be realistic about pricing -- I don't know what you own, but it may not (likely will not) get you what you hope for in terms of wedding cash, especially in this economy. Whatever you do, do NOT give anyone any money upfront to sell your timeshare for you, there are plenty of companies out there that will take advantage of you.

Go to ebay.com and check timeshares. You'll find many, many for sale. Some are being given away because people want to simply stop paying maintenance fees. You are unlikely to get much of anything for your timeshare. They are, unfortunately, very easy to acquire and very difficult to get rid of.

For real??? Puting cash upfront seem the only option out there! So what should i do ?

This is what I have.. Liki Tiki Village, Orlando, 2bedr/2bathr, week 45, even years (biannual).. they suggest me crazy selling prices, anything from 10k to 14k ... I'll be happy with 8k !

And worst thing is, these people from all these companies just dont stop calling me! They keep on and keep on calling! I regret calling them...

Don't believe them. They charge you a big "upfront" fee and you will never hear from them again, most likely. If they call you again, tell them that you will pay them after they have found you a buyer and they will not bother you again.

You can advertise yourself for a small fee at www.redweek.com or www.myresortnetwork.com or similar web sites and even free here after hanging around for a while. There are some listed here. You need a certain amount of posts so let us know if there are any timeshares in Argentina? Is timesharing popular in your country or not? What is worthwhile seeing, etc. etc.

eBay is also an option but you need to be careful so you may have some questions about that too. I wish you good luck.

Hello Sebastian, and welcome to timeshare forums. Yes, the economy has halted many plans...hopefully you and Belen will be able to get to Argentina for a wedding before too long. However, it is unrealistic of you to think that you can sell your unit for the amount of money you mention....think more around $1000. There are many timeshares for sale in Orlando, and your week is not during a particularly desirable time. Maybe others have different opinions??

Sad but true- that particular week is not good- Orlando is not good- and every other year is worth less than half of of every year. At this point, I would say the timeshare is worthless or even worse- a liability. Keep it and try to use it with some help here or see if you can get someone to take it off your hands.

In this economy, don't expect to get very much for your timeshare. Maintenance fees have skyrocketed, and that's what hurting owners right now - and scaring others away. Try to make the most of what you have. Perhaps you can use your timeshare for a honeymoon. If your timeshare includes a membership with II or RCI, you may be able to trade for a week at another time in a nice resort elsewhere.

You mentioned that you were lucky to meet great people and one of them transferred the timeshare to you. It appears the person transferred a liability to you. I doubt he will agree, but you might be able to transfer it back to him.

The chances are very good that you simply will not be able to sell it at all and will, instead, have to pay the maintenance fees.

When people on all these sites we have mentioned to you are unable to sell their timeshares (many of them much better for re-sale than yours), there is virtually no chance you will be able to sell it--let alone sell it for thousands of dollars. The companies that ask for money up front are making their money that way: by getting money from you. They do not actually sell the timeshares, and they don't care that they don't sell them. They already have all the money they expected to make--your money, which they got up front. They are scams; all of them are scams.

Because you are desperate, don't make the mistake of losing more money.

Sad but true. Low demand Orlando weeks are a dime a dozen. Any company that says they will get you any significant proceeds are liars out for your money -- they support themselves by collecting upfront fees from people like you, then sell the undesirable timeshares on ebay for a dollar. Or worse, never take the timeshare out of your name, so you pay them and are still responsible for the ongoing charges/fees.

Has the deed been transferred to your name?

Lie !! Tell these companies that you sold your timeshare. Hopefully that will stop them from calling you.

Your friend is not your friend! He knew the dog was worthless and passed it off to you just to get rid of it. Lean on him hard to take it back!

Are you planning on living in the US?

If it was me and I was not going to live here, I would forget that I own it.

                              JMHO

The others are right about it being a liability, those posting before them were just being polite. If you use the search feature you will find that owners are paying companies to take their timeshare, typically around $3500, and then those companies hope to give them away for a buck on eBay. That's where that eBay stuff is coming from.

Here's the Liki Tikis right now:

liki tiki timeshare, Real Estate, 1 items on eBay.com

                              The highest bid on any of them is . . . . 0 . . . . even the ones with a free 2009 weeks.

                              Here's what you don't have:

A Golden Egg to pay for your wedding.

Here's what you have, provided the eBay listings are accurate:

An obligation to pay Liki Tiki $637/year, and that will increase.

For that you get the right to stay there for the week you own.

For more money you can stay somewhere else sometime else.

You can try some free sites like craigslist, or google Orlando timeshares for sale for other free sites.

If you pay money to try to get rid of, in the US we say that is good money chasing bad money.

Also, Florida is in midst of the worst real estate catatrophe in history, many are getting out and few want to get in. I googled some beautiful brand new townhouses in a development not far from Liki Tiki, for $49000.

When you strip the glitz away from Orlando, there is a seemy, ugly underside.
