  • Just thinking about buying on HHI

I'm just putting my toes in the water. It seems like it might be a good time to buy. The one place I think I'd go back to regularly is Hilton Head. Although the marriotts look nice, it's not a priority to get something like that. I just am thinking about something nice -- 2 bdrm or better -- maybe in June. And, I am looking for a SERIOUS bargain! I was looking at the ones on eBay today for $1. That's how much of a bargain I want. Anyone got any suggestions for things to watch? Or, max prices to pay? I would only be interested in summer -- school break summer.

    Thanks,
    Debi

Maybe I'll get some responses if this is moved to the Members Only boards. Would someone please move it?

    Thanks,
    Debi

I think response may be low b/c your OP is a little confusing. If you want just general nice HHI resorts to look for, that's one thing, and will likely get good response. If you are asking for specific auction links or known units for sale, that's a more targeted/limited query...

        Hi Glitter,

I guess I'm looking for both. If anyone sees any decents ads anywhere, that'd be helpful. All I know is that the Marriott's are way out of my price range. If anyone knows of any decent places on HHI, that I can search for, that'd be helpful too. And, like everyone, I'm looking for something nice with lower maintenance fees. I have been watching a couple on ebay -- waterside by spinnaker is one of them. Any feedback on that one? I've never been. I also need summer weeks -- when the kids are out of school. Am I asking for too much?

        Thanks,
        Debi

Waterside is very nice, Frank has been there. Location is good, close to Coligny Circle. Beach is a long walk, short bike ride.

Spicebush at Sea Pines used to be Marriott run, but no longer so prices are likely lower. Great location in Sea Pines, short bike ride to Sea Pines Beach Club. Swallowtail is another Sea Pines resort that used to be run by Marriott. Royal Dunes also comes to mind. I'd be surprised if you can find any of these dirt cheap in prime season, but in this market I guess you never know..

Also, Debi, I'm not sure when schools in your area go back, but late August weeks are easier to come by on HHI than earlier in the summer.

I'm hoping that Waterside at Spinnaker is nice because I bought Wk 12 for spring golf.

I paid $51.00 on Ebay. Total including legals and transfer was $300.

We used to go to Myrtle Beach at that time of year but always wanted to try HHI.

                Wish me luck.

I saw that one on eBay but our spring break was week 12 this year but it's week 13 next year! Good deal though. I'm hoping to find something early summer though.

Good luck -- hope you enjoy it!

We go back in August unfortunately -- way too early as far as I'm concerned. When I was growing up, Labor Day always signalled the end of summer. I had a hard time getting used to my son going back in August -- and him starting school sports even earlier!

I wish I would've timed my kids better! I have one just finishing highschool this year -- so I don't have to worry about his schedule any more -- but, silly me, my daughter starts kindegarten in September -- guess I wasn't thinking about timesharing

I was at Waterside by Spinaker last week - in a 3 bedroom.
The units there are very nice - well maintained and HUGE.
I have stayed in a 2 BR there also - they are all bigger than the average and they are very well built. You do not hear your next door neighbor or your overhead neighbor at all

I'd actually LOVE a 3 bdrm. That way, my whole family could join us. I never really like having someone out in the living room on a sofa bed -- it'd be my preference to have the common available for everyone at all times. Did you get that on an exchange?

What you buy depends on the kind of vacation you're looking for. HHI has several different communities and your experience will be much different in each one.

Waterside is very kid friendly. I think they have a zero entry pool. I've toured there but never bought or stayed at waterside. It's near Coligny so you are within walking distance of a lot of things to do. And not too far from the beach. Maybe a bit of a walk for a 5 year old though. We ended up buying Cottages at Shipyard. We really like it but there's not a lot going on at the resort itself. Because it's on Shipyard plantation it's pretty secluded. That is a plus for us but some folks like a little more going on. The beach is a two mile ride from our unit. Most are closer to the beach.

I'd say the best thing to do is ask what others think about a particular resort you see for sale or a particular area. I've found the reviews at TUG and Redweek to be very helpful too. One thing to consider is that HHI is starting to get pretty well saturated with TSs. I don't think its overbuilt yet but it's getting there. But our unit still trades well with SFX. So far this year we've gotten Key West and Mayan Palace Riviera Maya (although that's an easy trade).

Good luck with your hunt. Now's the time to buy.
