  • HGVC Hawaii - any perks if you upgrade?

    Hi
we purchased with HGVC in HHV in Honolulu in Oct.
We have not used our points yet, however, thought
about purchasing another time share, thru Shell Vac.

Has any owner here of HGVC stayed at HHV?
When there, do they ask you to come to another presentation
    to upgrade?
If so, do they offer any perks, freebies, etc. for inceasing points or buying up?

At the Shell Vac presentation they offered all kinds of benefits to owners that were upgrading points.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks

Yes they'll ask you to attend an "owners update" and yes they'll ask you to buy more. THey'll ALWAYS ask you to buy more. I believe the current perk is 5,000 bonus points but, those bonus points come with restrictions. I think the offer was $100 to attend the presentation. We declined prefering not to give up an hour or two to sit through another sales presentation when we had no intention of adding to our timeshare portfolio.

However, all the perks in the world won't make up for the thousands of dollars you'll save buying HGVC points on the resale market.

How does one go about buying the HGVC points outside of HGVC

I am such a greenhorn, I do not pretend to know how this works, and I am hoping that by joining this forum that someone out there will have the patience to guide me - I love a bargain - and it sounds like we have some very savvy buyers out there

Thanks, to all of you for helping me out

There are PLENTY of resellers out there that deal in HGVC points. If nothing else, try a search on E-bay and see what you kick up. There are also the classified adds on this site, classified adds on Timeshare Users Group (TUG2.net) and Redweek.com.

You really need to spend some time reading through the forums here before getting to excited about spending upwards of $30,000 from the developer. Just take you time and read everthing you can find on this site.

There is a fairly active forum over on TUG (if you have not found that site yet). Here is a link to that forum. This forum (TimeshareForums) does not have a very active HGVC community.

HGVC is a great system, but you can usually save anywhere from 40-60+% purchasing resale. As a resale owner, you have all the same benefits as if you had purchased from HGVC directly (despite what the salespeople may lead you to believe -- they will lie!). Probably the best place to find resale properties is either via Ebay or a broker. If you view through the TUG forum, you will find several recommendations for some good brokers.

            We did it

Thank you for all the advice

we did some active looking and found a really nice resale deal
with a salesman that so far has bent over backwards to get us
            what we want and/or need.

Therefore, we now own 10,000 more points that we did last week,
and thanks to your expertise, we paid a fraction of what we did for
            our first buy in.

I think we were lucky, I'd love to say savvy, but I think it was just
beginners luck, to purchase our first points at the Hilton Hawaiian
Village Lagoon , that give us that home week, and that is where we
really want to go; so with that said, and the purchase of the extra
points, we now can go WHEN we want to, WHERE we want to,
            at the HHV

Thanks to all of you that helps guide us in the right direction. This
newbie really appreciates your time and efforts!
