Hi,
I'm new in this forum and I would need your help to well understand couple of thing about timeshare.
Here is my case,
I've went to Sint-Maarten this winter and I've been asked to buy a timeshare in the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, which is supposed to be a really popular destination.
First of all, I bought it, and I'm now asking to myself if I did the good choice, It was my first time about timesharing and probably I've been deceited; that's the reason why I need your advices.
We got the standard presentation about the time share and the cost advantage it gives. The guy who did the presentation told us that we buy one week per year at Oyster Bay that is a member of Interval international who as rated it as a RED week which means that everybody would like to get this week and that it would be so easy to trade it to go somewhere else. He told us we could reserve our week anytime we wanted within a year, or trade it, or rent it. He shows us a contract in french, because we're from Quebec, and after they prepare our contract in english to be signed. I readed it and I got couple of question regard to certain word or point, and he was always telling me that everything was standard and that was the same as in french. So we signed it, because everything seamed correct and his explanation was convincing. But I got my contract here and I start to read it carefully and here are couple of quote:
They said I got the "use of one week on a quadrennially recurring basis" The guy told me it was because I needed to come back to Oyster Bay once every 4 years. But I think it's not the good definition
They call the timeshare as a "Flexible Use Week" but a little further, there is a not that say that the "Use week assigned to member is use week No. 31 odd" and also that if the "company ever abandoned the Flexible Use plan, then member's timeshare interest shall be automatically converted to a fixed timeshare interest for the assigned use week..." So does-it mean that I can use my week anytime I wish to but, they can fix it at the week No 31 whenever they will want to??
So I really needed your advice regard to all this because, I was suppose to buy a week of vacation per year whenever I wanted and that I would be able to trade easily with anyother destination, but I'm scared to got only one week per 4 year at a particullar date....
The guy also told me that if I want to sell it in the futur, they will buy it back at my buying cost, but no more even if its value is now greater... what you think about all this???
Thanks in advance!!!
