I just traded into the Bay Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort and the Hilton Grand Vacation at Waikoloa Beach. And this got me thinking about the many great Resorts with great locations I have been able to exchanged into over the years.
I would like to thank all of the members of both Tug and Timeshare Forums that helped me over the years to understand how to get the most out of timesharing.
So let me tell you how timesharing has worked for me over the last 29 or more years.
I bought my first timeshare week sometime around 1980. It is a Wisconsin timeshare, summer, fixed week, which I have always used for exchanges with RCI. The reason we bought this week was as a family of 6, we were into skiing and we used the week to trade into several ski resorts in Colorado and Utah. As the kids got older, my wife and I traded into other areas. With this week we have exchanged into Florida, California, Colorado, Maine, Wisconsin, Germany, Austria, England, France and Hawaii to name a few of the location we travel to with our timeshare weeks.
Some of the Resorts we exchanged into with RCI and II were the Kaanapali Beach Club, The Point at Poipu, Wyndham at Waikiki Beach Walk, the Bay Club at Waikoloa Beach Resort, the Hilton Grand Vacation at Waikoloa Beach, Maui Lea at Maui Hills, Maui Sunset, Fitzpatrick Castle Holiday Home in Ireland. The Manhattan Club of New York, Little Gull of Longboat Keys, Fl. The Rushes of Door County Wisconsin, World Mark Wine Country of Sonoma, The Pointe Resort and Club in Minocqua, Wisconsin, Orange Lake Florida, Ferienclub Bellevue, Bad Gastein, Austria, Ferienclub Grundlsee, Austria, Club Colombo Hotel Quellenhof, Grainau/Garmisch, Germany, Ferienclub Mitterfels, Germany, Ferienclub Oberstaufen, Germany, Gemuender Ferienpark Salzberg, Germany, Kilconquhar Estate and Country Club, Scotland, Melfort Village, Scotland, Hillcrest Condominiums, Ogunquit, ME, Villa L'Auberge, Del Mar, CA, and the Grand Pacific Resorts at Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort.
I am 69 years young and still enjoy being a Dentist. So, I am not retired and have no plans to do so yet. I’m just taking more vacations than I did 5 years ago. About 7 to 9 weeks a year. I love Wisconsin in the summer and play tennis 3 to 5 days a week in the summer. So, we take most of our vacations from January to April each year (5 to 6 weeks) and September to December (3 to 4 weeks).
Over the last 10 years I have added several more timeshare weeks to my timeshare portfolio. I own 2 weeks at Fox Hills in Wisconsin, 1 week at the Pointe in Minocqua, Wisconsin, 6 weeks at the Beach Club at St. Augustine Beach Florida, 1 week (odd years) at KBC, and 1 week at Kahana Falls (odd years)
I need to plan ahead as far as possible because of my dental practice. So most of my vacations plans and exchanges are made 1 to 2 years out.
I paid $13,900 for the KBC week and $10,000 for my first timeshare week at Fox Hills. I paid $250 to $1700 for my Beach Club at St Augustine Beach weeks. I paid $700 for a 2nd week at the Fox Hills. I paid $1.00 for my week at the Pointe in Minocqua, and $450 for my 2 Bedroom week at Kahana Falls.
The Maintenance Fees are about $1050 for KBC, (Odd Years). About $1090 (Odd Years) for Kahana Falls. I paid $493 for each week at Fox Hills (the MF was the same for 2007 and 2008). I paid $497 for each week at The Beach Club.( the MF was the same for 2007 and 2008). I paid $467 In 2007 and $476 in 2008 for the Pointe at Minocqua.
Exchanging into the KBC this January cost me $164 plus $493 for a total cost of $657, which is $393 less than what I paid in MF at the KBC plus part of the membership fee in RCI. I say part of the membership fee because the membership fee needs to be divided by the number of trades I have each year in order to get a true cost of membership per trade.
We use 4 or more weeks at The Beach Club for a cost of $497 for each vacation week. We use the Pointe at Minocqua for a cost of $476.
The Cost of Exchanges would be $657 for any location.
And the using my KBC week would be about $1050. And the Kahana Falls week would be $1090.
In summary, we have stayed in many great Resorts in many great locations at a cost between $476 to $1090. I think timesharing is working for me.
