  • Need EVERYONE'S opinion please

I am looking to get rid of my timeshare, but realize I would never get enough to pay it off, lol. So, I have an idea and want to get ALL opinions please.

I am thinking of doing a raffle for it. $50 per ticket. Here's the catch, I must sale a certain amount of tickets. If I don't, EVERYONE will receive a refund for their ticket. Also, ANYTHING over the certain amount of tickets set will go to my Church since it is really struggling financially. If i do this, I would put a vid of the drawing on Youtube or somewhere like that so that everyone could see that it was REAL and not just taking peoples money. I would also have a celebrity do the drawing. I would MASS advertise it, anywhere that I could. Flyers locally, classifieds, Ebay, timeshare forums, etc.
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? I mean, it would help me and my Church I think. How many tickets do you think I would sell at $50 each over 6 months??

I wouldn't pay $50 for the raffle ticket unless I was familar with the church and supported its outreach programs.

I'm guessing this will run afoul of your state's gambling statutes.

Short of declaring bankruptcy, or doing something else that eventually harms your credit, there aren't many ways to unload a timeshare that is upside down without taking a loss.

I'm not sure what you own or what you owe, but in this market there aren't many people that would consider a timeshare for which they must pay annual MFs a "prize," unless it's something really special.

There are established charities that do this, though I've never heard of it done with timeshare - I know of one that raffles off a car every year provided they sell a minimum amount of tickets. But they are an established not-for-profit charitable organization, which I gather you are not

Heck, your timeshare may be worth even less than $50! Have you seen how many are selling for a buck on ebay?

Besides the legalities or holding a lottery, I seriously doubt you would get many takers.

            Everyone's opinion?

Wow! That will certainly take some time to do.

But, it will keep you from doing what you have planned, which is 99 & 44/100 % doomed.

There are many people who are willing to simply give their TS away and have no luck. With the uncertain economy, high MFs and now, people are leery about traveling, I don't think you will have much luck unloading your TS. I suggest trying to find friends, family. or anyone else who may be willing to give you some money to stay there for a week. At least you can cover some of your cost.

I was looking to get rid of my timeshare too. I'm working with a group called The Owners' Advocate and they were able to get me out of my Bluegreen contract in a few months! It's going to be so amazing not to have to worry about collections calls anymore... I highly recommend them!

NOTE: All indications are that this poster is a likely shill for the very questionable outfit which all his/her posts seem to recommend or favorably mention. Any members here that have been around awhile and know timesharing will warn you to be careful or avoid dealing with anyone who wants money upfront to sell or rid you of your timeshare.

it really irritates me when some of us on here that have actually gone to the trouble to post, just to be called a shill. The Owners Advocate helped me get out of my timeshares as well. It takes a team effort working with them and I have learned so much by what we have done together. I would do it again and I am just a normal everyday person who wants others to know that it does work. If I have typo's on here, I will apologize right now, because I probably will. I get so anxious about people call me a liar, or a shill or whatever it is that you will,,,,, but it works. They do not claim to be lawyers and they sometimes do not always get right back to you. I am the kind of person who bugs you until you answer my calls, and that goes for the BBB or the bureau of compliance timeshare sections in florida,,, I kept hounding and wouldn't except no for an answer... so now i have a contract that is allowing me to just walk ........i don't care if i don't get any money back, i just want out.

I think that when you go on one of those cruises that they specialize in,,, you should have a warning about high pressure sales that end up being a lie in most cases. you should never misrepresent a timeshare and that is what this timeshare industry needs to learn. There are too many of US (people who got taken) for it not to be a problem.

I live in NV and I am a nail tech, not a shill, I do not work for TOA but recommend them any-day. So you can put your little disclaimer on the bottom of my post, but people will still read it.

if you look at my IP address you can tell that I am not working for anyone but me and my ladies who want pretty nails...would you like pretty nails or toenails Frank.

I would love nothing more than to help other people like me who feel liked they got royally Screw@d.

I will say this, I have learned so much during this whole exhausting ordeal, and one is that there are ways....live and learn but whatever you do, do not sign under pressure.

nope you would be wrong, but don't worry too much you will get used to it. One year ago, I had no idea what a pain timeshares would be. Like I said, i am a nail tech who had help. one reason no one wants to respond to these forums is because of people who disrespect others. Even though it irritates me I will keep it up. Working with TOA worked for me...i have no idea the ins and out completely, but, i sure know more today than i did a year ago. and if I am "this One" then i feel privileged.

Well maybe now they will be busy posting lies over there and slow down the shill posting here. Just what would motivate someone who managed to get out of timeshare to join a timeshare site and post positive comments about an outfit that supposedly got them out of a timeshare for a thousand bucks ? The only answer that makes sense is that they work for that crooked outfit.
