  • Interesting article about fraud in the Asian timeshare markets...

Timeshare firms now dangle 'resale' bait

    # Firms promise to help retrieve money from timeshare investments
    # Customers pay money to cover 'legal and administrative fees'

Article about companies advertising to "get refunds from timeshare developers" in the Asian markets. Touting their legal expertise and claiming success for obtaining refunds for misled consumers, but turns out they don't actually provide anything... Sounds eerily familiar to some US companies I've seen offering similar services for timeshare owners, credit card debt, unpaid taxes, etc...

Anyone else wonder what happened to consumers with common sense?

Common sense has never been very common.

Every now and again the paper will run a story about some old scam artist from the past. During the depression, there was guy going from town to town that was getting people to invest in his rabbit farms. He'd buy some rabbits, get people's money and skip town, leaving the rabbits behind but taking everyone's money.

Can you imagine being the the midst of the great depression and thowing your money away on in investment in rabbits? People did it though and this guy did well until the law finally caught up with him.
