We really don't like to drive any further than a five hour radius....anything further and we prefer to fly if we can get a great deal on fare....how about you?

Uch, I hate to fly. But I'll do it if I have to. For a while I was trying to keep things to one flying vacation per year. But the kids don't like it, either, though, so this year it's all driving vacations. We also took the train to Buffalo, NY, last summer, which is an eight-hour ride from NYC. That was ideal--it's much more pleasant to be on a train than strapped into a car or a plane.

We do both driving and flying. We limit our driving trips to no more than 4 hours driving in 1 day. We have all the time in the world so if it takes us several days, so be it. But it really depends on where we are going. In some cases flying is the only viable option such as traveling to Cancun. If the drive is boring such as Southern California to Texas than we will fly. I really do not like flying because of all the waiting around and standing in lines. We do not like to have to adhere to a schedule which you do when you fly. We will probably do less flying in the future and pretty well travel just within California as we have been everywhere that we want to go and there is so much to do and see right here.John

That's a tough one, because I hate to fly, but like going to places that are too far to drive to, most times.
I usually need to gear myself up for a long flight, and make sure that I have the proper stuff to get me through....A good book, comfortable clothing, munchies, drugs, etc.
I'm sort of like on kid on long flights, asking my DH if we're there yet.Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Flying after 9/11 is just no fun anymore but the world is still waiting for me to explore it so I do both. I try to buy all my timeshares within 4 hours of my home just in case my circumstances change and I don't lose my "investment" but honestly lately since I live in Miami I actually prefer to cruise and TS rather than do too much flying. Much less hassles, much more fun.

The nice thing about living in the Midwest is that most places are only 5 to 6 hours away by plane, including layovers. The bad thing about living in the midwest is most drive to vacations we're interested in are 10 to 12 hour drives from home. Needless to say, we fly most of the time. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

We prefer to fly and go west at least once a year. I would like to drive to more of our vacations but it's so damn difficult to get anything on the beach in summer on the east coast. I have been successful at that but it's no guarantee.
I swore when we drove to OBX that I would not ever consider more than 10 hours in a car, even though it is easier to bring anything you could want from the house including my pillow.
Winter is definately a fly to vacation there is nothing remotely warm enough within driving distance.Lawren

Living in the midsouth, most of the time, we will drive if it is 8-10 hours away and if over that will fly. It seems like we end up driving to about 1/4th of our trips and flying the other 3/4th.

Fly.
We usetadrive to FL, with an overnight just passed/past Atlanta.
Now we get on a plane and are there in 2 1/2 hours.
Doing the dollar-and-sense math, it is less expensive to fly and rent a car.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

12, 15, 16 hours in a car? WOW! NO way-I'm in a plane.
It might be different if I lived in an area where you actually got somewhere in 6 or 8 hours. In 7 hours, I'm still in the same state. If I go the other way-I'm in Arizona but still.....I envy those of you on the East coast that can be in several states in several hours.
