  • Do you ever go in the pool when on vacation?

Since we have the whirlpool hygiene going in another thread I thought I would share this information with you.

"The most common recreational water illness is spread through diarrhea. One of the most persistent problems is Cryptosporidium, a parasite that causes diarrhea and can be found in infected stools."

Ok, so when I swim in a pool I assume there is pee in it - but OMG - would a person actually do THIS in a pool. That is just awful and disgusting!!!

I was telling my DH about the other thread. He always uses the whirlpools and my 3YO thinks they are her personal indoor pools. His comment and I agree - if I worried about every germ out there I would wear gloves and a mask all the time and never leave the house.

Depends----on where and when. In more than a handfull of stays at one resort, I have yet to use the indoor pool. At another I used the indoor pool once in over 10 stays. It all depends on the weather, what else there is to do and the convenience of getting to the pool.

OY......Well, the pools now out, and the jacuzzi tub, too.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

It just depends on the pool, the location and how crowded it might be with children acting like children. Most of the time the answer is no, we don't use the pool. When we are at Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach, FL, I will sometimes go for a swim after the sun has set or maybe early in the morning before most people are out and about. Once the kids start invading it's time to towel off and find other things to do.

I always go in the pool if it's an outdoor pool but for some reason the indoor pools don't appeal as much because of the strong chemical smell. I guess I'm just a spoiled Florida girl. I like my pools open to the sun.

                  Sure.

But afterwards I have the pool attendant rub some of that hand sanitizer over my entire body.

Where can I find an attendant like that!

I refuse to go on vacation to a resort and not swim in the pool! That's one of the reasons I love these resorts.

If a pool or hot tub looks in any way unclean (foaming, oily slick, greenish or foggy water, etc.) or if it's crowded, then I don't use it. If it's crystal clear and the resort is otherwise well-maintained, I trust that the pool maintenance is adequate as well. We have no one in our travel parties with immune system problems. Proper pool maintenance ought to take care of the nastiness expected in public pools and hot tubs. We don't eat yellow snow and we don't drink pool water. And we also swim in lakes, rivers and oceans where plenty of critters live and do their business too. I agree with mdurette and her DH... we're too busy having fun to worry over every germ.

Like Lisa, if it looks clean, I'm okay with it...but if anything looks the slightest bit hinky, no way.

For families with small children, a pool is almost a necessity. Even when I stay on the beach, I'll often find we spend more time at the pool. It's simply a more contained area, and as a parent I simply feel more comfortable having the kids there.

If you are scared of the resort's pool area, you should either not be staying at that resort- or more likely- should never leave the relative safety of your own home.

I totally agree with you! This is one of the main reasons to own a timeshare is to go with your kids during summer and enjoy the pool.

Some of the same people that won't go in a pool will go into the ocean where the fish do what!
