    Need Help . . . suggestions . . .

From another thread . . . We are only able to confirm one exchange, which we have in SW FL 1/2-1/9/10. We've always had two weeks, can see a second week with a good trader, but can't with the deposit we would have to use.

We may be able to get a second week at the last minute, or we could get something in Orlando now, and keep searching and switch . . . which may be the answer.

We can now book airfare @ $79 per leg, to either Clearwater or Sanford. We can pay $30 extra to be able to change the return with no penalty, subject to availability.

I am actually seeing Priceline stuff in both Sanford and Clearwater at moochy rates like we'all like getting . . . full size and mid-size SUV for $235 a week, and that's without even bidding. But not at the airports . . . at other locations nearby. Those locations were not available through Priceline before, but are now.

I am leaning toward flying into Sanford (Orlando) and booking a second week in the Orlando area, so I can confirm plane and rental car without having to change later. Then, keep searching SW FL and try to switch the Orlando week to there at the last minute.

    Sound like a plan?

I would do it an take the insuracne for exchange cancellation. The worse thing to happen is that you pay RCI insurance and not need it, but then you have your second week and can search for what you'd really like.

We decided to do it, so today would be one of the three days a year we would do business with RCI, including three deposits to make, and can we!!!???

There's always tomorrow, and maybe the kids at RCI will be done playing with their computer.

JLB how do you make a ressie and then switch it at the last minute? Do you have to buy insurance to do this? Is there an additional fee involved? I thought you could only do this if there was a problem with your room. Do you routinely switch your ressie at the last minute?

From what I'm hearing ( but not seeing as I can't get in) you may be able to pay for that second week... OR get in there and make the exchange of your lifetime before they fix this new version of RCI on-line.

I normally write switch in Italics, to imply that I actually continue searching with another deposit and if I see something better I call a Guide and cancel the first exchange and confirm the new resort as a new exchange, paying a new fee minus what might be left from the first exchange.

I search up until the last day on most of our exchanges.

I have done it a few times to improve our resorts. One in January, 2008, was a double switch.

Ya gotta be careful about the Guide doing it. The last one that tried it jumped the gun, cancelled the first one before I said to because she was one of those know-it-all Guides. Then she could not get the new resort with the same deposit. Then she could not get the original resort.

But I met a nice, new, competent person in customer service who straightened that out. That is how I have found the competent people over the 20 years, through the incompetent ones.

So if you cancel on the last day don't you lose your deposit? I'm not really that RCI savvy yet so please be patient with my stupid questions. Maybe I am confusing my DVC with RCI's rules. I've yet to cancel an RCI exchange or last call so no experience yet. I did try to call RCI before I left to see if I could get an upgrade but was unsuccessful because there was nothing available. But I figured they'd let you upgrade for a fee I'm sure.

                        I don't understand your question.

Cancel on last day of what?
                        - - - - -

                        Again . . .

I see something better and I call and ask them if they will cancel the existing exchange and use the same deposit to get the new resort. They get another Exchange Fee, plus my original resort back for someone else.

If you do have to cancel an exchange outright, however, it is best if you have another one lined up and ask them to use the same deposit for it. So you don't lose trading power with it going back into the Spacebank as a late deposit. Again, they are getting another exchange fee from you, so they are more accomodating.

Maybe I'm not sure how to ask but if you are calling at the last minute (I guess define last minute for me, I'm thinking the day of check in or the day before) to take back your exchange and then do another exchange, do they not refund the first exchange fee? Also since you are calling at the last minute how can they make the unit available to anyone else since they don't have time to market it? I've seen some last minute inventory on skyauction that is not on the last call list so is that where they put it?
