Always...since I had sticky glasses and plates with food still on them at a timeshare in Italy. YUCK!

Frankly, I'm not nearly as concerned about the cleanliness of the glassware as I am of the bedding.
Please.....I can do without the pool, soaking tub, and jacuzzi. I can even manage without using the dishes, glassware and silverware. However, it's gonna be very difficult to do without the bed.Angela

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Our society has become so "germophobic". Our poor grandkids catch every bug that comes along because they have never played in the dirt, swam in the local public pool, or gone 24 hours without a bath like I did as a kid. There was no Purel sani wipes nor did everyone freak out about touching doorknobs. The best we did was put those paper thingies on the toilet seats in the gas station bathrooms!
For heaven's sake people...one is exposed to more questionable crap in the food we buy from the humongous food producers and fast food purveyors than in the average timeshare can possibly have.
Has no one here ever shared a glass of anything with a friend? Has no one here ever spent the night in a hotel bed? Why do so many Americans go so overboard on the prospect of a few germs? Or a spider now & then? Or a harmless gecko in Hawaii? Sheesh.....The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln

Listen here now......
All of this is good hygienic advice....
But like most people I will continue to go on vacation and use common sense.
I will call a spade a spade. How does the pool and grounds look?
If it looks questionable I am not swimming..
As far as the Hot Tub in the unit. I will start to use Bleach for 30 mins.
Dishes.... Do they look clean. No spots stains.... OK to use.
Sheet smell fresh and clean... Lay down and sleep.
All of what we are discussing is real. I am now living in Swine Flu USA central. I live among the schools that have been closed due to H1N1. I will take simple common sense precautions. Wash my hands often. No kissing strangers. No sharing food or drink.
Keep it simple.Flying at MACH4 +

Barndweller I agree with you and I'm a nurse who works in a huge teaching hospital where we are obsessed with germs. To the point where we don't touch a soul without gowns, gloves and masks and are hounded to use Purell and wash our hands til they practically bleed and your nails fall off. Of course we still have super bugs more powerful than ever. I think America has gone mad with the germaphobic thing. I think the bugs are laughing at us every chance they get. As much microbiology that I have learned over the years you just can't escape those critters no matter what you do. Might as well face it and build up your immune system instead. For God's sake I used to eat grass and daisies when i was a kid and never got any worms or bugs. I even used to drink out of the hose in the yard. Swam in the public pool and shared drinks with my friends. How did we ever survive those years?

Of course we're all exposed to them all of the time; that's why we have an immune system. But it's also clear that certain activities do cause increases in certain types of diseases.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't undertake those activities; there's a balancing of risk and reward. But you can't balance risk and reward unless you have at least a general grasp that certain activities actually are riskier.
For myself, I snorkel on vacation even though I know that there's about a 50% chance that I'm going to get an ear infection after a week of vacation in a beach location. The reward is worth it to me.
But there are also locations where I will not snorkel at all, Banderas Bay for example. Knowing that I have that susceptibility and having observed sanitation conditions in the area that ramps up the risk to a level that is no longer worth the reward to me.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

You know pretty soon there is going to be a ban on timeshares because the kitchens are not sanitized to hospital standards. Then the pools will be closed because we might catch an ear infection. Then the motels will be banned because the beds might be unsanitary. We might as well just stay home and cocoon ourselves in Purell. I for one am going to buy stock in Purell Co..
