S. Padre Island-Spring Break?

We are retired and booked 2 weeks at S. Padre beginning 2/27/10. Today a young couple (Carey is from Dallas) told us that is Spring break time down there. Anyone know for sure, and has anyone been there during break?

Spring break in Texas is generally in the middle of March. You will be there a week or 2 early.

S Padre is a college student destination when spring break arrives.

The whole month has different Texas colleges spring breaks and SPI attracts students from everywhere. 100,000 plus college students inhabiting the island are drunk and rowdy but the people who live there usually leave if they can get away. Normaly crossing the causeway takes five minutes but during spring break it can take a long time. They don't have as many students as they did years ago when MTV was there but the police are very busy with nudity, drug and alcohol arrests.
