  • Who's selling owners names?

I've been getting calls every other day for over a week asking for me by name
telling me how much money I can make by renting or selling? (From different companies)

    Anyone else getting these calls?

All the time. I suspect they get some of the names from county records. It's easy to purchase a list of names and numbers.

Celebrity's list is out there, with their reputation, corporate probably did sell the list but in other cases it may well be an employee that has found an opportunity to make some extra cash.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

It's part of timeshare ownership. They sell names to others. The others know you spent money before and maybe you will fall for it again. Places are selling your info all the time. Gotta make a buck.

I got a call from someone claiming to be from Wyndham, wanting to talk to me about an 'exciting opportunity'. Problem was I sold my Fairfield Harbor property a year and a half ago (now two years without MFs)

Where did that list come from??

Celebrity's record keeping skills aren't great. I received a call a couple of weeks back asking if I still owned my Celebrity TS. I told them that it had been sold over a year ago. They said they were cleaning up their records. Who knows what's happening there!

List's are not always accurate or up to date. Depending on what company you purchase your list from (there are companies that just compile lists), you may or may not have up to date information. Back when I was in sales (eons ago), I would get frustrated if the list I was working from was so out of date as to make it essentially worthless.

Kind of like the list that someone still uses to send mail to my first wife. She died in 1993 and still gets offers for window replacement, Air Conditioner, etc. When I called the guy selling AC units to take her name off the list, I did say that she could probably use it where she is. Oh, I am a bad boy.

Since most of the lists I bought we're for either life insurance sales or medicare supplement sales, it really sucked to get pay for a list that was obviously several years old.

                      Don't call list

I complained to Westgate about this and they said all property owners wee public information and they never sell what people can get for free. I started telling callers I am on both the KS and the national "Don't call list" and that they could get in trouble doing this. Had to say it five or six times and somebody apparently, finally, deleted our number. I hope.

I literally get 1-2 EVERY day about this. (Vacation Village) and they send post cards if you don't answer the phone.

                          Not any more

We were getting calls several times a day, every day for weeks. "Are you ready to sell your timeshare?" We'd only had it two years and hadn't even used it yet!

I told them "no" and that we are on the national, and state "Don't call list." After telling them this a few times, the calls have stopped. The last time I was talking to someone with an Indian accent. I even said "You could get in trouble." Probably not true, but the calls stopped.

You can google the "don't call" lists and get on easily. We almost never get solicitation anymore.
