  • Have you been Contacted by RCI?

This article was included in my latest DAE newsletter.

Have You Been Contacted by RCI?

DAE has been contacted by a number of concerned members, seeking clarification on some disturbing information they are hearing from some representatives of RCI. Given the number of members who have contacted us, we feel it is imperative that we clarify the situation to all DAE members. Our members have been told that unless their RCI membership is renewed, they will be unable to continue to exchange through DAE. The reason being given is that "DAE sources many of their holiday weeks through RCI".

DAE would like to assure our members categorically that this is not the case. DAE fulfills member's requests predominately through individual Timeshare owner's deposited weeks, and a network of Resorts & Trading Partners with whom we work in cooperation with.

DAE is, and always has been, a totally independent exchange organisation, providing timeshare consumers with real freedom of choice, something that the industry as a whole benefits from.

We believe our independence has been a key factor in the evolvement of a more ‘consumer-centric' industry. Where previously compulsory memberships and exclusive supplier arrangements have created barriers, DAE's open and transparent system provides you with greater freedom than ever before.

DAE feels certain that this conduct would not be condoned by the management of RCI and is more likely confined to only a few misinformed representatives.

Please call us to clarify any matters that relate to your DAE membership, and if RCI representatives call you relating to your rights with dealing with DAE, we want to hear about it. We thank you for your continued support.

Just one more reason why RCI is NOT the exchange company I work with. There isn't a level low enough for this outfit to ever reach rock bottom.

But major cheers to DAE. Great response.

I agree that the problem is likely a few representatives (and how good of DAE to not swipe at RCI), but, if left unaddressed, uncorrected, that would simply confirm my belief about what kind of company RCI is. eh, what's new?

        This is in Australia Carol?

I had also been contacted by RCI to tell me that unless I renewed my membership with them, I would not be able to use my Worldmark credits even within Worldmark. Yes, quite ridiculously deceptive information that had no truth in it whatsoever.

This type of misinformation only reminds me why I should not go back to RCI.

Yes. I have been a member of DAE for a few years. The article was in their email newsletter and I found it interesting. I haven't been a member with RCI for over 20 years so I'm not expecting to be contacted by them.

Did RCI contact you specifically to tell you this or did they just casually drop it into the conversation?

The RCI person contacted me specifically because I was up for renewal and hadn't done it yet. So when I said I wasn't going to as RCI was getting too expensive. She told me I wouldn't be able to use my Worldmark Credits to swap to other Worldmark resorts. She was adamant she was right so after she got off the phone, I rang RCI to put through a complaint for deceptive information. I was more concerned that others might believe her.

Good for you, Syd! We need to push them back every chance we get!

Outrageous behavior for a company representative, but it is allowed to happen by a greedy corporate structure! RCI pushes their agents into such ridiculous gimmicks by quota demands and incentives, no doubt. They are very like the TS sales staff at SlimeySlough Resort.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.
