I am not complaining after what Maui, HI is doing to us. Did anyone read the Starwood thread as everyone there is up in arms about it. Maui is taking advantage of the timeshare owners because we cannot vote. It is outrageous!
Your property tax should be reduced by the same percentage as the reduction in assessed value. The reduction applies to the property tax bill due on December 10, 2009.

I am waiting to see the effect after December when we all pay our property taxes. In Riverside county where I live there has been a drastic drop in assessed values which will result in property taxes dropping by the same percentage. They cannot raise the rate due to proposition 13 passed in 1978.

Timeshares are real estate-so I believe the same principles apply.

Often you can do this online, as I did. Just locate the county assessors office online and have a look. A few minutes typing could benefit you.
In Riverside County, the county reassessed the property values and notified us in July of the new value. In order to not be deluged with applications for reassessment, they went ahead and did it themselves telling people to wait until they got the new reassessed value. If you didn't agree with the new assessed value then you could still apply for an additional reduction. By the way the assessed values are for January 2009 and not the current value. Our new assessed value declined substantially and was very close to what it should have been. We bought our home new in 2002 so our previous assessed value was not nearly as high as those who purchased later. Those that purchased in 2005-2007, which are thousands of homes, are seeing reductions of 60-70%.

John, I have my bill from last year in front of me and the one I need to pay in December too. Both bills are exactly the same. I may call them about it on Monday and find out why. This is for Orange County which may operate differently from your county where your timeshare is.

              Emmy,

Regardless of what county it is in, the property tax should decline by the same percentage that the assessed value declined. The tax rate is fixed at 1% by state law per proposition 13.
