I've been getting several messages over the last few days from an outfit called ListingDepartment.com. It's either the cheapest up-front fee outfit yet ($50), or something a little more odd.

I just ignored the first two, as I don't really have any interest in selling right now, but the they've sent me three or four breathless "time is running out---limited opportuity" messages, mentioning one specific Festiva resort at which I own. The who thing smacks a little of desperation, and it doesn't quite smell right.

Interestingly, if you check their WHOIS registration, the domain owner is listed as:

    Domains by Proxy, Inc.
    DomainsByProxy.com
    15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
    Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
    United States

DomainsByProxy exists only to hide one's true identity when registering for a domain, which makes me doubly suspicious that something is up. Given some of Festiva's shenanigans about getting owners to convert to points in the past, and their attempts at getting voting blocks at resorts they manage, I wonder if this is connected to them at all. Anyone know anything about this?

In September, 09, we foolishly signed with this company - and by that I mean, we provided them with the 98.00 they asked for to list our timeshare for sale or rent it. We've not heard one word from them, despite their assertations that they had buyers lined up. I was on the phone with the salesperson for close to an hour. We checked the BBB and couldn't find anything bad on them. Now, a month later, they have a BBB rating of F and as I said, we've not heard one word.

I've requested the promised guaranteed refund. I'll let you know how it goes.

Send complaint letters to state DA and state department looking after timeshares renting and selling. Florida DA is taking action against companies like these; but, you have to send your complaints to state DA's.

          Listing Department, Inc.

The Listing Department Inc. is the ONLY resale provider that I have found where there are NO upfront fees, deed searches, advertising, etc. (usually anywhere from $200-$2900) what so ever! The buyer pays for any commission or closing costs, not the Listing Department Inc clients. Yes, there is a REFUNDABLE deposit of $49 to list your property for Resale OR for Rental, but that is all. I had several properties listed with them and ended up taking one of them off the Resale list and the deposit was refunded IMMEDIATELY! I had no problems at all. The customer service has been great and unlike the other "listing companies", these people always return my phone calls. I am VERY pleased with the service I have been provided and am looking forward to selling my timeshares with them.

I requested my REFUNDABLE deposit to be returned, since I sold my one timeshare on my own and it was REFUNDED immediately! I haven't had ANY problems with this company and am relieved that there is a Resale provider out there that doesn't charge any upfront fees. What is the worst case scenario? They don't sell my units and I get my REFUNDABLE $49 back!

Don Diego sounds like a shill trying to get some credibility for a scam.

Too bad there isn't one thread going where all the shills and non shills could post their 'our service does this for you' so we could look over the ads and possibly see if any are actually useful.

I know redweek is supposed to be a good rental site, but I just hate the idea of them charging people to come in and look around. I understand that they want to charge me to list a week, but when the charge the shoppers, I think they cut down some of the shoppers from even coming in. So that is my negative opinion of Redweek (that and that I have never gotten a rental rented from their site), but I know there are positives too. If there was one site, maybe 'timeshare renting and sale services' where they can list and we can *itch about them.

I haven't had my tea yet. Maybe I will be nicer after a cup of assam and will think that is a dumb idea.
                Don

Hope that works out well for you, and many thanks for sharing the BBB info. Tonyg is right, unfortunately - Don Diego sounds like a shill, and I suspect your experience is the typical one.

Speaking as a (currently not very serious) shopper, you are correct. I hit My Resort Network and other freebies when I'm wondering what's available. This year I'm not likely to buy, since I've already committed all hubby's vacation time, but going on what I've seen through the resources I already have, once I'm a serious shopper I'm not going to be paying money just to see if there's a better deal at Redweek. Plenty of availability without it.

Lucky you - it's been a month and I haven't seen our refund. Time to contact the BBB and the AG's office, I guess.

My rule of thumb with posts such as these is that if it looks like shill, smells like shill, and acts like shill, it's probably a piece of shill.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                      “You shouldn't wear that body.”
